On the flip side in 2004 I had a whale swim into my Olympic 40 at Digby Island. Shook the boat something horrid. I imagined face prints into the keel but on haulout not a mark was found anywhere.

So fair to assume the keel was lost after running aground. What make is the yacht?

I cleaned many boats for many years, at times right in front of the powers that be without an issue. It appears to me that the rules are there to control the real problem makers if it’s required rather than the little guys.

Will be interesting to see why, but from pics it doesn’t appear to be a hull failure.
