IODA World Sailing Championships, Langkawi, Malaysia. Noppakao Poonpat from Thailand took the bullet in the final race of the championship to become the 2010 Optimist World Champion in style. Poonpat sailed consistently throughout the Championship, winning four races in the fifteen race series and was on course to take the title with two days to go. A near disastrous penultimate day when she posted an OCS and 16th left her fighting for survival from nearest rival Ahmad Syukri Bin Abdul Aziz (MAS) but in true champions style she kept control of the race and lead almost from the start.
