Registration open for Red Bull Lighthouse to Leighton 2015

It's the southern Hemispheres longest kiteboarding race, and entries are now open for the 2015 edition of the Lighthouse to Leighton in Western Australia. With only 115 places available, finalists are drawn by ballot by the organizers a few weeks prior to the race day. Demand for racing spots grows every year, with lots of disappointment for those who don't get an entry, so get in now and register your interest! Racing from Rottnest Island (home of the famous Rotto Lighthouse) to Leighton Beach in Fremantle, the 19km stretch is home to huge seas, wipeout-inducing seaweed and some scary looking shadows underwater, but racers manage the crossing in less than 30 minutes! Last years winner Olly Bridge from the UK is returning along with his mum, Steph Bridge to defend their titles as the fastest man and woman to complete the crossing. They were both riding formula race boards last year, but will 2015 be the year a hydrofoil finally cracks the win? Now in its sixth year, the Lighthouse to Leighton is offering equal prize money for men and women, plus the coveted Marc Sprod trophy for WA's fastest racer. Event organizer Tim Turner is stoked about the prize money this year, saying in a press release earlier this week: "The chance to claim you've been the fastest racer across the ocean, from iconic Rottnest Island to the West Australian mainland combined with the attractive $8950 prize money $4000 of unique trophies, and the bragging rights of actually achieving the crossing combine to make the race highly desirable for keen kiteboarders."
