The First Ever Strapless Double Backroll.

Brazil has just witnessed sporting history this week, and it's nothing to do with the typical sports you might expect. Julien Kerneur from France just landed the worlds first ever double backroll on a surfboard, with no straps and no grabs. Using the new Airush Union, Julien busts out the double backroll from the flat water between two waves, on his way in. Contrary to the usual method of popping off a small wave on the way out, he uses his kite for lift and slowly floats around in two backwards rotations, subtly angling the board underneath him to catch the wind. It's the subtle board angles that make this trick so difficult when compared to the (now somewhat common-place) double front roll. The strapless double front roll, made famous by Keahi De Aboitiz, relies on the rider using a grippy tail pad, and pulling their back foot into the wind. With the back roll, it's up to good ol' wax and practice. Lots of practice. While this first example includes a little butt check to finish it off, nobody can deny that it was a double backroll, strapless, without a board grab. This guy must have some seriously sticky feet! Look out local riders attempting the trick at a beach near you, before long, this too might become as common as the front rolls!
