Apparently not - It's easy, just ask Eric Abetz. You apply for one in the morning and the other one in the afternoon - that's 40 a month, job done.

I just feel sorry for both parties; the poor buggers submitting all these applications for jobs they won't get and the poor buggers reading all these applications from people who are not even remotely suited and won't be even be considered for an interview.

Luke Hartsuyker's family owns a business in Coffs Harbour, or at least they used to. It would be funny if all the unemployed people in Coffs, of which there are many, all descended upon that business one day a week to ask for work.

I really don't know how one can seriously apply for 40 jobs a month. It could take many days to apply for one job, do serious research to look for a job that suits you and then craft an application to maximise your chances and then organise referees to support your application. So this like so many other government policies will end up with people doing useless work that achieves nothing or worse than nothing. People will end up feeling worse after so many rejections or they just won't care anymore. The other issue is there are not that many jobs out there.

If they really want to stop people going from school to go onto the dole, which they say is the purpose of this policy, the answer is fairly simple. Make Newstart Allowance, ie unemployment benefits, only available to those who are unemployed. You can't be unemployed if you have never been employed. If you leave school and have no job or whatever, you don't get any money off the government unless you are in some sort of training course and make a reasonable effort. If you don't, forget about the government supporting you.

A way to reduce the burden of welfare payments would be to reduce income tax and for some of the money saved to be put into some form of insurance, similar to superannuation. This money would be available to you if you became unemployed or left work to go to study again after working for a few years. If you keep working you get the money saved when you retire. Reduced taxation would also stimulate the economy, creating more jobs. Right now for me I have much more money taken from me in tax than what I have in disposable income, money to buy a coffee, some clothes, shoes, lunch or whatever. So all this money goes to things like new jet fighters and locking up asylum seekers in Papua New Guinea, real job makers there.......

Sorry, I was being a bit sarcastic/tongue in cheek. I agree. You need to target each application to that specific job, even if it sometimes means removing experience that might otherwise ruin your chances of getting a job.

I remember back to a few years post HSC, where two of my friends were unemployed and on the dole. They would routinely look in the paper, and provide the job ad details on their forms in order to get the dole. They would never actually apply for the jobs, as realistically they had next to no chance of getting them. Both of them were good, intelligent guys, and given the right environment work hard.

If this scheme is the best they can do, its not going to really help out those that can't find a job. Its just going to make their days a bit pointless.

I would prefer it if there was a scheme where you could get paid the same to go to TAFE and train to become a plumber or carpenter, or something similar, without needing an apprenticeship first. I am out of touch with this. Can you do that sort of thing these days? It would be good if you could let the people that are motivated to just get on with instead of making them apply for 40 jobs a month.

I suspect the job applications will be form like, and no one will police it anyway.

In all seriousness, companies hate receiving job applications for which the candidates are not qualified, so this will just generate a huge stream of them that they don't yet see. Even now, companies do outsource this role to recruitment agents, and they will probably just do this more to avoid filtering 4000 job applications.

If your a retard, then yes go right ahead and start this up.

Because if your are even thinking about it, you are no rocket scientist and are living payday to payday..

FYI The idea of this scheme is to weed out numpty nuts who are rorting the welfare system and who do not want to work.

The best way to do this is to hit them dole bludgers in their back pocket and suspend that free dosh the government hands out.

If job seekers are serious about working, they will find a job, make some cash, leave, upskill and then another different job that is better than the last job. Eventually they will find the job that suits them and their skills (or lack of)

It's all about choices, either you choose wisely, or things are chosen for you in life.

This scheme just seems like a knee jerk reaction to someone thinking unemployed people are lazy. I am sure some are, but there will be others that will just lose hope if a better scheme can't be thought of.

Apply for 40 jobs and all you will get back is 80 emails from skill training companies,some ads are simply put up by them,53 years young, 32 for the same company, july 4 made redundant,can't get dole,new rule of leave school or lose job having to wait 6 months for dole is ****,pitty the young ones.

This thread brings back memories. When I completing my studies at Curtin, I applied to many Analyst roles at Investment Banks/ Oil & Gas companies, each application took anywhere between 4 and 10 hours in total.

This was inclusive of the following-
Detailed cover letter.(All applications)
Application questions. (All applications)
Online mathematic, English and pattern assessments. (10%)
Preparing for interviews (5%)

I just looked at my hard drive, and what do you know, my draft applications are still there, all 73 of them.

But you know what the bad thing is right! I finally landed my Corporate Finance job after all these applications, only to lose my position 6 months later.

I ended up in Audit, it’s a difficult gig. At the moment we are working from 7am till 12pm each night and most weekends.
I honestly don’t know how the Bankers do it all year. I haven’t kited for a month.

I don’t personally think that just getting people to apply for jobs is the answer;
I’d like to see the unemployed get some form of subsidised training with paid benefits.

If you’re unwilling to work for the Dole or complete some full time training, and make something of yourself, then the Government should not take from my pocket to support you.

One of the biggest agencies was run by Mrs Rudd, I wonder if she can find something for her
