That's not a secondary issue it's the heart of the issue. I say this every time this debate comes up here.
1. 5% is recognised as the lowest you'll ever get unemployment in a capitalist system. The last 5% won't or can't work.
We're very close on 6. something.
2. There are lots of controls in the existing system. Rorting is 20x harder than 20 years ago.
3. Dole money flows through the community, it's not lost money, it's straight into the economy via shops, landlords, etc.
4. What we're paying our taxes towards, as you say above, is for a stable safe society. ie that crucial bit that makes Australia way better than everywhere else.
