What is it in WA with this. Lots of people sit in the right hand lane, and lots of people then sit behind them and shift to the right to try and bully them into moving.

I don't mind when people want to overtake, but here its like you go to overtake someone when you are over the speed limit and some clown is then behind you a car length behind you, sitting to the right to try and hurry you up. Of course, when you then get past the person you were passing, the same idiot that was behind you slows down.

The number of people that suddenly match your speed when you catch them on the freeway is so annoying. Cruise control has been standard on lots of cars for a long time now, so why are people not using them?

And the number of people that stay at 60 to 70kph when trying to merge onto a freeway.....

I wonder if EVs are better at staying at constant speeds? I would hope so.

While I am whining, its sort of funny with Toyota cruise controls. If someone cuts infront of you the cruise control backs rights off and the distance is not that small, at least for driving in Australia. Not that I have a Toyota but I have rented one with cruise control and found this so irritating that someone would pull in in-front of me and my car would suddenly back right off.

'Perf' freeway driving skills. I don't think I have been anywhere in the developed world that is as big omnishambles of dumbfeckery as driving on the freeways here.
I was driving on the freeway with a friend from Canada recently. She asked me what the freeway rules were because she couldn't figure out what was going on. Initially she was freaked out that people used the left lane to overtake, and how was that even legal? She had decided that the right lane was for the use of big 4WD and SUV's and the left lane was for cars and trucks, which she had to admit seemed a little weird... As for merging like a zipper; don't get me started.

Just been reading this. Even though electric cars are cleaner than ICE cars, it really makes no difference to the planet. Consumers are being guilted into trying to fix a problem they cannot solve.

I don't think there are too many mining trucks on the road. My experience driving a 5 tonne truck tells me that it used about 30l of diesel per 100km, but it spent a lot of time running while stopped to power the fridge unit.

But when I look at the cheaper end of EVs I see a lot of glass roofs. They must show the dirt, even if they're cleaner

Lucky I live mins from the water (not on the waterfront like some other lucky stiffs), but at least its less than 15mins.

Bring it on, the local will have way less people to share with.

EV owners - most of them think the power comes from the battery so its clean energy.

But where does the energy to charge to the battery come from?

I bet its mostly from coal and gas lol.

I'll claim to be a non-snooty EV owner, well its actually my wifes car. As someone who owns a "fun" ICE, the EV is just a better daily experience then a petrol car. Torque everywhere, quieter, and never have to visit the servo, it just gets plugged in of the evenings. Lots of convenient functions like ability to leave the aircon on when kids fallen asleep in the baby seat, or remotely turn aircon on before you get to the car on a hot day. Potentially most new cars are starting to get these features even ICE ones? End of the day if you have ability to charge at home, and need a new car, it's not hard to see that an EV is just a more convenient appliance to get you from a to b on a daily basis.

I also have a 3yr old phone, but I don't have a 15yr old TV, but that's because I didn't own a TV until about 2 years ago...

I think end of the day, once people get past the whole scare campaign around wokeness, the EV's will eventually take over once their prices come down a bit more on the basis that for 90% of people they are a better driving experience.

Definitely driving electric cars really isn't gonna change the world, I'd assume its better for the environment to keep driving your old car then to buy a new car. I like the QLD governments 50c fare initiative, a very cheap investment that I reckon would have an outsized affect on reducing emissions and traffic on roads.

I can beat you there, I'm still riding the bike I bought with my life savings when I was 14, that was 1959. So that's about 65 years I've had it and it was second hand then. It's a top notch dutch bike, so I assume a Couple came out from Holland with their bikes, then at some point later, decided to return. So it's possibly 70years old.

Use a landline. Life still went on ok when there were no mobiles.

When I need to send a message to someone I use a blanket on the fence paling fire to send morse code. It takes a while, but it works.

For windsurfing I use gear from 1992. It is the best value dollar for dollar. Anything else is just lazy and for your convenience.

For the sake of the last house fence on the Scarp, stop bum-dialling us all winter...

I rarely send smoke signal SMSs these days. The government is watching, so things get complicated. Have you ever tried to run VPN encryption over morse smoke signals? It's tiring stuff, but at least I know the govMINT can't know what I am up to!
