+1 for Orson Scott-Card

And Ender's Game has been made into a movie and will be out later this year. Hope is half as good as the book.

^ me too! The inclusion of sci fi legend Harrison ford is a good sign, but with other book to movies done recently, well I'll go in with low expectations...

More science fantasy I guess but David and Leigh Eddings deserve a mention, the Belgariad/Mallorean series covers 13 books. It predates the Game of Thrones by nearly 30 years but there is a lot of similarities in characters and geography. I guess it seems to be a winning combination.

Pure Fantasy Genre, no "Science" involved. Most fantasy authors focus on magic/sorcery in a medieval level tech world/s - think LoR, GoT. Good books though and just one of hundreds of similar authors. Try Wheel of Time series if you can persevere with 13 huge volumes. I have read the whole series a number of times and the final book has just come out - last few finished by another author as the original died...

Arthur C Clarke is a fave...City and the Stars, and the Rama books especially. incredible vision for the time.

I'm waiting for his space elevator to come to fruition.
Guess we don't have a strong and light enough tether yet.
