So the debate should stop fussing over whether we're causing it or not and start focussing on the real question - what do we do about it?

BBQ the prick pollies and bankers who use it as an excuse to squeeze the last drop of tax blood out of us. Turn them into carbon.

We are all Carbon Slaves.

You have to have a bloody good laugh at the debate going on at the moment. I take a pragmatic approach which renders the debate superfluous for me.

Having been around for nearly 6 decades, trained in the sciences, I have witnessed some truly catastrophic changes to global biodiversity that is attributable to man alone. The levels of pollution have sky rocketed and there is no sign of change.

On the day that man changed from a hunter gatherer to a farmer the process of degradation started. It has accelerated rapidly with the global economy which relies on growth as we have seen just recently.

I happen to believe that we are having an adverse effect on the climate, but come on guys, even if it was proven irrefutably, how much co-operation do you think we could muster up? I reckon that things will have to get a lot more serious before hands go into pockets!

It is just going to get much dirtier and greyer until at some stage we run out of resources and become extinct. Then whole process will start over. Cockroaches will probably have a run for a while!

Good luck the Chimps!

I agree with the last few posts , we shouldn't be so concentated on carbon pollution but instead on our system of prosperity , we can't go on as a growth versus surplus prosperity as eventualy we run out of surplus resources, we need to curb population growth not fuel it. If anything climate change may be the rebalance the earth needs to cure it's cancer (us).

Do your part and only have one child , it's a start and will on a long term basis reduce carbon more so than anything else in the system we currently survive with.

Watching 4 corners? Looks like the skeptics are gaining traction. Barnaby is playing a good hand, if it doesn't measurably heat up in 5 yrs he'll be pm.

A bloke called Ian Plimer published a book earlier this year called "Heaven and Earth" about the idea of global warming filling the spiritual void left in the western world. He s a lecture at my uni and its pretty interesting to hear his ideas about global warming from a geologists point.

I went to one of his speeches... interesting bloke and a convincing speaker but once you scratch the surface he's really a swindler selling a book so he can retire comfortably. Most of his big statements really dont hold water when you look into it.

If you google him he gets an absolute schlacking from climate scientists. The audience was full liberal party supporters and lib party aids so it's no wonder they are a bit out of wack at the moment.

+6 billion greedy consumers all eating, drinking, sh!tting and consuming everything vegetable, mineral and animal in their path at excessive and unprecedented ferocity. Is it still so hard to believe we are affecting our environment?

In a generation we may hit 10 billion-ish. Brace for the very large dollop to hit the global fan sometime soon.

Fair go mate. Give the Libs 20 years or so and they will be up to date ( today's date that is).

The WA Libs were pretty cutting edge on DLS. They are at the vangaurd there for sure. And their climate policies are... uh.. not that much worse than the frikken meandering govt!

I think Climatologists need to spend less time writing up reports and more time generating YouTube videos. Apparently it's the one source of information in the world.
