I wouldn't say we have good nutrition in modern society. A lot of foods are contaminated in various ways, refined, and stripped of most of their nutritional value. Maybe life expectancy is longer now because in western countries we have pretty much got rid of diseases that killed a lot of people in the past, such as TB.
More people are living longer now. But that doesn't necessarily mean people are healthier. I think everyone knows older people with diabetes, heart problems, dementia.. ect..
I think by definition I would say that someone that is alive at age 70, is healthier than someone that died at 60.
Nutrition? Sure it's not perfect, but when have you last heard of someone in Australia that had malnutrition, and died from it?
