My father has just retired from owning a building company due to health reasons and is currently starting a small vegetable growing business on an acre block up in the hunter valley. Using the spin farming technique. He has got to the stage where he has started selling small amounts of produce to local food outlets and is looking for ideas for a name and seabreeze has always been helpful before so id thought id try again! any other info on growing vegies or good links to websites for him would also be appreciated.

Look for kk's (second) reply to my thread from a couple of weeks ago. He posted a very good link to a great document.

www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/General-Discussion/Chat/Vege-garden-advice-needed-organic-pest-control/

Here it is (I know it's WA based - but some of it may be relevant and/or you can search your own state):

From kk: Try this link at the dept of agriculture WA

http://www.agric.wa.gov.au/objtwr/imported_assets/content/hort/veg/cp/veggie_sm_web.pdf

It is a very indepth guide for growing veggies in WA (Perth) and has lots of stuff about pests, even some good organic advice..

For me when naming a product or business I try to be straight to the point
and describe what the item or service is in a couple or words..
like "Organic Veg" or "Hunter Organic Veg" it states every thing you need to know..

I worked at the fruit and veg market for a while in SA. One of the customers was "House of Organics"
Some of the other names that were quite clever,
Adams Apple
Banana Bowl
Banana Palm
Banana Boys
Fruit Barrow
Wild Salad
Fruitaramma
DooF DooF (we know food backwards)
Yummilicious Mum
Lettuce Inn
Veg Out

Be careful by using the word "Organic" in a name as it may limit your business as a lot of produce cant be grown organically or is quite substandard at best. (white onions are a prime example)
Just think a little further down the track, might you be JUST organic or maybe general fruit and veg.
Herbs like mint, coriander, rosemary, sage, dill, thyme, chives and bay leaves always sell well and are easy to grow, rhubarb is always a good seller.
And if you have room to plant a hedge make one from variegated and or dark green HOLLY and trim it the week before Christmas, you would be surprised what you can sell the trimmings for.
Also plant a "kaffir lime" tree the leaves sell for about 40-50c each (just think what a 3m tree is worth) [store them in small sealable lunch bags in the freezer]

I have no particular interest [or knowledge] in this matter.... but that [appears to be] some good advice right there!

Back in your box, sunshine. You're in the wrong place not him.

OK the first thing that came to my mind was "Twisted Roots".

Just get a pic of a hot chick in a bikini next to a big lettuce and call it "Vegies r us"
Nobody will care about the organic bit and he will be unable to keep up supply

As in 'Meat n two veg'.. said you wanted a meat referance/analogy in there.

Actually putting 'meat' in the title would be bad for biz but Beets n true veg might give you a free kick.

B is close to top of alphabetical listings in white/yellow pages too.. probabloy about as good as anything at times.

I shall await my lifetime supply of free beets and get used to purple poo.

Thanks.

No good on names but tell him to contact Phill at Hunter Organics in Merewether. He actively supports local producers.

Can imagine someone with a dodgy tummy and lumbar mistakenly walking into a 'crack n sack' place and getting a rude shock.
