Hmmm...

I've figured out that to watch it:

- Will cost me $80.
- In Standard Definition.
- Live Bermuda Time.

Once again Murdoch has taken us back to the future in 1985 and left a bad taste in our collective mouths. I mean it is literally how we watched it in 1983 but now you have to pay and do all this bull**** setup. i.e. it's worse than 1983.

1. Download this app:
https://www.americascup.com/en/app.html

2. Sign up to a VPN and set yourself to be in, say, Singapore.
I use SurfEasy myself. www.surfeasy.com

3. Get it on your TV
Up to you how you get that onto your TV. I'll be using Apple TV. Google Chromecast is a cheaper option. Hope it's Full HD like it was 4 years ago. It was beautiful.

4. Watch it when you want to
I only hope they have replays because Bermuda is -11hrs from Sydney.

App does not even have live racing.

I boycott.

I remember when the whole country used to get right behind this - every telly was playing it, we had it going in the school common room, some teachers had it on telly's they'd bought in, you could catch part of a race in a shop or though a shop window.

Now, thanks to being extorted to pay an extra amount on top of the usual Sky fees, I don't see anywhere near the same community spirit behind this race. Only cants with a bunch of extra cash floating around are willing to fork out for this (ie rich cants) It literally used to stop the nation.

What a piece of shyte the whole fiasco has become

Rant over. Did we win it yet?

Wait! I'm (still) an idiot!

Got it working using my own instructions. I neglected to actually do step #2 and VPN to Singapore.

Is in Full HD : )

4. Watch it when you want to
They have replays : )

Just watched the France vs Great Britain race. Man, did they ever come from behind to flog the Brits. Average speed ~35knots.

Note: it cost me $6 to watch all the races. That's good value I reckon!

Hey Panda,

Just to clarify, do I need to do 1 & 2 to make it work on 3?? I have Apple TV set up at home and am keen to watch.

Cheers

^ Yep. You need the app to play the video, and you need the VPN to be in, say, Singapore that you can watch the replays and live video on the app. The content is region restricted.

Don't forget to set your VPN location before you start the app!

Best race so far was the 2nd race on Day 3 between Sweden and New Zealand. Lead changed 9 times. Controversial penalties. Dramatic stuff.

I think the Kiwis are looking the best. Again.

I just watched the Day 4 Race 1, which was a rematch between the two. Silly Swedes got themselves yet another penalty:

They're doing ~28 knots upwind there.

We're still waiting for the first team to hit 50 knots, or do the whole course 100% on the foils (they're getting close).

I am getting the error "HLSJS: Video file not found" on the replays page.

Any ideas what would cause this? I assume it is nothing to do with the VPN that I am using? (Avira Free Phantom VPN through Singapore).
Avira is only free for 500 MB so I hope to prove the concept before paying for the VPN.

Oh, and I paid the few dollars on the AC site to access the races.

I assume if it was a VPN problem I would get a message saying I am in a country other than Singapore?

Day 7, race 1 NZ v Japan......NZ just did 100% foiling for entire race but judges said they touched down on finish line so it was officially a 99.6% foiling. Never ceases to amaze this technology and racing format

Solved it. In addition to Evil Panda's instructions I had to install FakeGPS. Fake GPS allows their website to access my phone GPS and confirm that I am in fact in Singapore.

Now I can watch replays or live races. Yay!

It turns out that using Chrome Cast works and the data doesn't pass through my free VPN meaning that I don't use much VPN data. Double Yay!

Today's the most amazing ac sailing I've ever watched. Right on the limits and incredible pitch pole by NZ. Barker and team Japan looking like they have the psychological edge over Outteridge and Sweden. Did outteridge chicken out on his bear away at the first mark? I'd give my left nut to be on those boats just to experience the acceleration rounding the top mark bearing away.......from around 30kn to 43kn in seconds
My money on Japan and kiwis fighting it out for challenging rights (nz to win)

Isn't it or what?! That's real ragged edge stuff when it's over 20 knots. The boats are literally falling apart, bits flying off, crew almost falling off, catapults. It's a race of attrition; see breaks last. We've never seen yacht racing anything like this before.

And they're still hitting 40+ knots. They aren't holding back that much, if at all.

I kinda wish it was fleet racing though. Needs a few more competitors.

Very different racing from the start of the series where it was perfect and beautiful weather. There have been some great races, really great races, in amongst the boring ones.

I also think it'll be Japan vs NZ, and then NZ vs USA.

Good intro for those who would like to know a bit about the hulls+foils.
https://www.americascup.com/en/news/2641_Loick-Peyron-It-s-become-more-and-more-of-a-human-battle-.html

Great match racing heating up as the teams continue dialling in the boats and abilities. Same game and tactics as before but the speed makes the old IACC hulls look like something for a gentleman's Wednesday afternoon club race.
Brits gone, Swedes back in the game, Dean Barker is the wild card and Team NZ seem to be patched up for now looking hungry+slick. And same as 2013, the big plus for Oracle will be their boat/gear will be in better condition by the time the final rolls around. It's on!

ETNZ pitch pole wasn't great to see as an avid supporter. It was dejavu 2013 when we almost capsized.bloody kiwis pushing it to the max. Typical. We dont need it so dont bother but we will be taking on the yanks if win the play offs. Apparently our skipper is an aussie mate by the name of ashby anyhow give the boy's a shout Emirates Team New Zealand :)

Team Japan robbed with unfair penalty at top mark gate 5 in the 7th SF race against the Swedes. Barker was ropable.

Here's a great vid that shows what happens if the grinders aren't grinding hard enough, or the pedaling isn't hard enough.

Incredible finish to the 6th race with NZ in comfortable lead only to run low on hydraulic pressure on last tack into reach for home. Artemis caught them and it was a race for the line with Emirates just getting there at the end. One more win for them and it's game on between Australia and the kiwis. I'm hoping the kiwis can take it out cause I'd love to watch it live in Auckland in another 4 years

R1 & R2 kiwis smashing the Aussies/USA Oracle and looking very good! Kiwis speed superior and they appear match fit. Hmmm Deja vu and flashbacks to last AC

The kiwis have the fastest boat in lighter winds, no question about it, I'm hoping for stronger winds tomorrow so that it will be a real race. Oracle has the fastest boat when the wind is strong, so the kiwis better hope the winds don't become too strong for the remainder of the races, or yes, deja vu all over again.
This is the finals now, so both crews had better keep the unforced errors at a minimum, that's been one of the kiwi's weaknesses.

OK....so just watched the vid below and from my calculations only one of the team members on Oracle is a non-Aussie (and he sounds European).

From a strategists and team coordinators perspective how does this occur? Does it just come down to a love of the Aussie sailing styles or they the seppo's can find decent home bred sailors?
