A few years ago now, some seppo on Rec.windsurfing was complaining about imported boards having their volume marked in liters. He was going on about any board imports into his country should be marked in his country's units, (cubic feet I guess). He seemed to take it as a personal insult, that other countries manufactures didn't respect American units.
