Are they playing it as one big session, or separate episodes?

I think its interesting watching it, but I should have watched it as separate episodes.

He certainly takes a lot of effort with his meals! I think most of us would have had boiled eggs for 6 weeks.

I watched the first episode and I'm recording the others. He really only says "farq you" to his chooks at random intervals. I covet his forced air wood stove.

How does that work? Is it burning charcoal or wood, and does feeding it with air turn up the temp for ages, or just a while? interesting.

Looks just like any type of bellows to me, except he's adapted an air pump. Seems to be just burning whatever he can find on the beach and moving charcoal from the outdoor fireplace indoors.

Like anything manual, you need to keep feeding the beast in order to get results so no, it doesn't "turn up the temp for ages".

Yeah, its interesting in that the more he uses it the more it seems like it was designed just for that very job of cooking, so I wouldn't be surprised if its a known piece of equipment. I don't think the geared impeller setup can be off anything else except maybe a forge if not designed just for cooking?

The way he uses it though does suggest that it keeps the temp up for a while, so I might write him a nasty worded letter advising that it may not be realistic. I am sure that will help.

What's with the fridge too? No electricity, but a fridge? Just a way to store stuff or is it a gas powered fridge?

What did he do with the rest of the 'male chicken'? Seems a bit wasteful for just one bit!

I feel like I need to write a letter to the daily telegraph..

Sorry, I think my attempt at humour was lost on you. Writing a letter to the Daily Telegraph is not on my list of things to do.

I do have a problem with the fact that he took the air cleaner off of the toyota though. Sure, it may run better, but when he is on a beach, he will damage the engine for sure!

Did he not notice his son was filming him the whole time?

It was filmed so well from so many angles there would have been a camera crew , makeup , tea lady and sand raker.
Im not sure how real it was meant to be . Id guess , ( i could be wrong ) , the house was put there for the show . It was only a foot or so above sea level . First high tide and some wind that house would be toast .
The stove looks like a old forging furnace , ( horse shoes and stuff like that ).

At the end of the show Last Friday night he did an interview as to how the show was made/filmed etc
Yes there was a lot of poetic licence in the show, and yes there was a big camera and sound crew including his son.

Oh no chickens were harmed in the show.....

I never watch cooking shows but id happily watch that again.
Actually I did watch the first episode again last night.

I think a lot of the meals are lost on just one person. If I went to that trouble of cooking those meals, I would have sampled it all before I even finished and by the end I couldn't have fitted the rest in.

Eat while you cook is my motto, and 'never trust a skinny chef' is a justification I also use

Oh I don't know, cooking for one is great, no pressure, only yourself to please, no one snapping at you to stop tasting/eating as you cook.

And no, he does not eat the dog tonight

My best guess from google earth

"When I was 7, mum bought me a pile of dirt for my birthday. I played in it with my matchbox cars for 2 years....best present I ever got."

Hahaha....so true, spent half my childhood in my neighbour's sand pit doing the same.

Like most boys growing up in the seventies and eighties, I spend half my childhood down the creek building BMX tracks and cubby houses. Filthy kids.
