Reading his bio, seem like Soleimani got his just desserts, but I'm just gonna wait until actually who know what this'll mean chime in, and not just absorb the Guardian headlines...

(Cue you-know-who)

Probably illegal but then they have been doing it for years, who is going to stop them.

Dont make the mistake of thinking it is Trump though, the masters of war are using their rather stupid puppet to protect their investment in Iraqi oil which keeps the wheels of capitalism lubricated.

As a civilisation we are one step back. What next. Invite Kim for talks and blow him up? Putin and Xi on the way to achieve world peace?
We have succession of state leaders removed from posts recently in quite unpleasant way ( and the world isn't any safer since) . With strike from the space you could now remove anybody at will from Earth surface, doesn't mean that you should.

Clearly the bloke reserved what he got but i suspect the timing has as much to do with impeachment as anything else.

Winding up his (trade) war with china. Time for the next distraction.

I think the effect it'll have is to unify the Republican base ("you don't mess with Americans and get away with it") rather than distract from the political tantrum that the impeachment is. Personally, regardless of the outcome, I think it'll backfire on the Democrats...

listened to his speech today. it was like a robot rump. he followed the script exactly ,his expressions were spot on , he didn't sound like a tw*t. .I would have to predict a second term. .there are some good writers, producers and directors working with his bosses at the moment

Remember when Trump supporters were cheering trump because he said he wasn't going to get the US into another never ending war in the Middle East?
I wonder what act would stir up every moderate Muslim within the US and the Mid East? Why would you do something that seems so cavalier and precipitous?

Iran is nearly 12 000 kilometres away from the U.S.

Even after WMD in Iraq the public still buy their excuses for war.

Who stands to gain - certainly not Iran.

However if the leaders of the Iran were owned and controlled by the same entity that pulls every string of Trump then the start of WW3 could be upon us soon.

If anything at all stirs "moderates" up because of their religious or political identities, then they're no better than any other nationalist authoritarian movements and they're confirming all the stereotypes...

Cos we know they don't give a **** about basic human rights.

He'll get another four years for the same reasons he got voted into office -- the "left" is a ****-show of authoritarian identity politics are have spent so long on the long march through the prestigious halls of academia with their fellow elites, they're completely out of touch with the actual average man and woman in the street.

Omg, the insane positions that conservatives lock themselves into just to try to prove some "culture war" point.

Trump will get re-elected

Solemenai was certainly no angel but this is going to just cause more tension and problems

To be honest I wouldn't care too much what they all want to do , however the fact that they all have nukes and are "believers of faith " really really concerns me.

I don't want nuclear winter , I don't want radioactive fallout and poison water .

You would think with all the legal weed in USA they would all just calm down

Not aimed at you Razz ..... but how do we know that this assassination did not prevent exactly that?

Given the mass interception of communications and the large level of human sourced intelligence the US is collecting, do we really think this guy was killed for no reason? No, he was up to something big and he's orchestrated terror before.

Not saying it is right by any means - but surely out of the thousands of brown heads that hate the USA, they didnt just knock him off as he had a Youtube channel, or might have bought a couple of pounds of Semtex lately? He was clearly known to be a massive threat and using convoluted travel plans to get to Iraq.

If what razz said happened in New York next week, people would be criticising the FBI, the resident blah blah anyone they can blame.

Flip side is the frothing haters will now have another excuse to bomb western targets (predominantly civilian) due to their different book / hate. (as if they needed one)

There is no winners here. So eventually you just have to try and protect your family and friends.

Negative, people who fall into believers of faith include the good old USA as well.

You got a guy who thinks he will go to heaven, with control of a nuke.

I don't care whether you think you will end up in Valhalla , nirvana, heaven or any other afterlife , it's the worrying sense of conviction and belief that all of these people have.

Thank you however of accusing me of sensationalist rednecking.

What is even more concerning- people at the helm that have nothing to loose ,beside political career.
You could save your career or prolong be few years by igniting a war.Psychology science may suggest that people facing this alternative could rather scarify their nation ( definitely another nation) then themselves. If Hilter had a big red button able to obliterate the rest of the world- he for sure use instead of can of petrol on himself.

I read an analogy recently that goes something like this

Terrorists have little power which is an issue for their lofty ambitions & ideals. Like a fly in the proverbial china shop, they are weak & can't actually do any damage under their own weight. To begin to meet their goals they get in the ear of the bull which eventually gets really angry destroying everything around it. The fly may die but if not, can prosper in the wreckage.

I guess another bull enters the China shop that is the middle east.

If impeachment becomes imminent, attention could turn to NK. Then the problem becomes even more complicated because leaders on both sides may have nothing else to lose but their nations.

Does anyone understand the international law side of this?!

For example, if US Secretary of State was visiting Mexico, and China drone striked on Mex ie. non-US, soil to assassinate US SoS - is this legally ok?! How can you the US get away with non covert kill orders under another countries sovereignty like this?
Are they technically at war with Iran already?! I'm just dumbfounded...

i followed up on some of Soleimanis bio too and wasn't he helping to destroy IS forces over the last couple of years as well? One sides evil overlord is another's liberation fighter... like Saddam, Gaddafi and Basshard

It just seems like the US pick and choose which despot they want in power over there and have no qualms justifying a take out of the others. And the people suffer the consequences... so depressing

Difference with the US is the command and control system -- the fingers on the buttons are not being guided by death cult theology.

I'm sorry you didn't get the obvious word play with the blatant clown emoji next to it

I dislike all of them but some are demonstrably more dislikeable than others.

One word - re-election. No doubt he was a nasty individual but Trump is a bully with the worlds best equiped military at his disposal. He must have been itching to use it for a long time. The Saudi's (where nearly all of the 911 terrorists came from) and Israeli's are on his side in the region but not many others. The funniest response was China saying they don't condone force as a means of diplomacy. Spratly Islands anyone! The world is a dangerous place today. Putin, Duterte Xi, Kim, Trump. The cult of personality and hate politics points to an uncertain future for us all. We are living in interesting times...
TH...

PS. Remember he bagged Obama for playing golf too much? He has spent 33% of his time at his golf resorts. He couldn't lie straight in bed...He is a dangerous bastard!

Lucky hillary didn't get elected, look what she did to the ambassador at benghazi.

Attack a US embassy under trumps watch and heads will roll. Iran has learnt their lesson, they will beat their chests but do nothing. Trump bring peace to the world. Again.

Give Trump a noble peace prize already, give him two. He has earnt it.
