Both sides are "captain's chairs" on mine. I think the Noah was around for a while, then the Voxy was new in 2000-ish and the Noah got the facelift at the same time. But who cares LOL
You want a reason for buying a new car.....do you put your family in it??? If it,s not 4 Star ANCAP or better I wouldn't.

I must be a monster... what with getting my family around in a '94 Landcruiser... no air bags, no ABS or various other TLAs, dicing with death everyday... how ever did the human race survive before the advent of such things?

Could be worse. They have all the safety things you can possibly imagine in their cars here, and don't even buckle the children in.
Anybody know of any seats that will bolt straight into my Hilux Surf? Mine are wearing out and I was hoping to find some plush leather seats from a Prado or something like that.

Well quite a few of the human race did not survive it
1994 Aus road deaths were 1928 and represented 10.8 fatalities per 100,000 people
in 2017 Aus Road deaths were 1225 and represented 4.96 fatalities 100,000 people
Airbags, Stability control, pre-tensioners, crash pulse technology etc are not the only reason why the road toll has more than halved in real terms but they have played their part.
I am happy to drive an old banger but I won't put my family in one.
I am thinking about putting my roof racks and a rooftop camper with side awning on my 84 XE Fairmont and doing the round Aus trip.
I know it will work and probably ping off a whole lot of people who see it who have spent $150,000 plus to achieve the same end.
Will I be more in danger from pinged off people or the antiquity of the vehicle??

Nah, it will be okay. You will no doubt have people telling you about their $150k vehicle, and concentrating on themselves, so they probably won't even notice you are driving an XE.
Have you tried it with a rooftop camper? I thought they would be a pain to get into. I think I would prefer a camper trailer or even a small caravan.
My parents are at a time where they want to travel, so its a matter of trying to find something that will meet their comfort needs but is still easy for them to move around. Not an easy task.

Isn't that just strange. You have all that technology in a car to protect them in the case of a crash, but you still have idiots overtaking across double white lines, and a road safety campaign that seems to concentrate on catching speeding drivers because that is easy.
Based on what I have seen recently there don't seem to have been much focus on making people drive better.
" catching speeding drivers because it is easy". Well many of the factors that lead to accidents are next to impossible to police. But when one of these factors catches people out the consequences rise exponentially with the speed they happened to be going at the time. Basic physics. Go thru the physics for a few scenarios and you'll be surprised at how much difference a little extra speed will make.
If they policed speed any less than they do now I don't think I'd be game to go out on the road.

Yeah, I know. I was at the snow on the weekend, and there were idiots that were overtaking across unbroken yellow lines. Indeed it is true that if they were doing 20km/h, then it probably wouldn't be a problem as the chance of impact is greatly reduced, and even if they did it would no doubt be survivable.
It doesn't excuse that driver for being an idiot though.
I just feel that having unmarked cop cars threading their way through this sort of traffic every afternoon, or just the Sunday afternoons would weed out the idiots as they either lose their license or learn that doing dumb stuff after skiing for a day is a sure fire way to lose your licence.
I feel that these same people are probably idiot drivers everywhere, not just at the snow, so I have no problem targeting them in this way.
I do somewhat agree with fining people for speeding. I mean, if you can't keep to the speed limit or just above it, maybe you should be going slower to keep within your safety margin. If you can't drive up a road with double yellow lines and not have to cross them, you are either a really crap driver, or you are going too fast, which comes back to being a really crap driver anyway.

The old Mk1 Eyeball, knowing how to drive, driving within the limits of your vehicle (and conditions)... and not driving like a twat in the first place - generally make the rest of those TLAs entirely redundant, as they only do something after you've overstepped the limits.
For some reason... Not crashing in the first place goes a long way to reducing the death toll.
Most of these new fangled driving aids merely insulate (and thus embolden) the driver from poor driving in the first place...
Active City Stop braking? It used to be called Keep your Eyes on the Road - KYEOTR?
BLIND SPOT INFORMATION SYSTEM (BLIS?) "looks out for vehicles you may not see at first glance when changing lanes."
Previously known as Adjust Your Mirrors and Check Over Your Shoulder (AYMCOS?) before you change lanes. Also BAOWGOAY? (Being Aware Of What Is Going On Around You)
Adaptive Cruise Control "lets you cruise in traffic by 'reading' the traffic ahead and managing your speed and distance as it changes."
You know...Like you're f***ing supposed to doing already....
HILL LAUNCH ASSIST "Driving off on a hill can put the best driving skills to the test. Especially if someone has stopped centimetres from your bumper." Back in the day, being reversed onto 'cause you didn't give the driver in front some space was called... Carma.
ACTIVE PARK ASSIST "Not everyone loves to parallel park. But what if we designed a" - just learn to f**king drive!
Not picking Ford, they just came up first in a quick search...

Active city stop! If you google "driver reaction times" you'll find it's between 0.7 and 3 seconds. You're not going to change that. How do you police "paying attention"?
At city speeds of 15 m/ sec the average driver hitting the brakes in 1.5 seconds goes 22.5 metres before commencing slowdown. A good car decelerates at almost 1 g, coming to a stop in another 11 or so metres. That's 33 metres all up. The computer behind ACS will process the data and apply the brakes in not even a millisecond stopping in 11 metres, much more likely to avoid the collision. And within a few years ACS should detect drunks, bicycle couriers lost dogs etc.
But ACS is not yet universal so until then your well maintained superceded 5 star car is probably just as safe as a new 5 star car if you drive 1 kph slower for every year it's out of date. ( but who's going to do that?)
I was in the car with a friend yesterday driving a new VW Golf. It has all the modern safety features, and even has a warning that the car in front is too close.
What does my friend do? He drives so close to the car in front almost all the time, and doesn't slow down to stop until well past what I would consider normal.
..but, his car according to him 'has great brakes, and they are more efficient because they are electric'. Apart from being a stupid excuse for driving so close, and doing nothing for 'accidents' that do happen, I very much doubt the brakes are 'electric' and do anything to make up for his poor driving practices.
I guess 'we' the general public are safer as people that drive like that are put into safer cars, but I really would prefer people like that to drive better.
How do you police "paying attention"?
Leaving enough room so you can stop... 2 second gaps, paying attention and all that.
You don't Police it... but you do crash into stuff, so you learn the lesson the Hard Way.
My point being made by FormulaNova s post...
