I swear that the flies are here early this year and lots of em. Whats with these little yellow striped ones this year??

I was on the plane back from over east last night and this guy next to me was telling me that the reason the flies are getting worse is because the government scrapped the farmers grant to buy dung beatles that eat all the cow crap. Apparently the flys love to breed in this filth. So as soon as we get a few days of offshore breeze they get blown into town.??[}:)]

Any one got any theories of thier own???

I have no theory, but at the dog beach they are unbearable. Even when walking along the water line i dont open my mouth, cause it would be full to quickly. We need some mortein helicopters full of mortein. Thats my solution.

If you wanna know what flies are about, head over here to a place called Gayndah. GF and I were out there a few weeks ago for their mini triathlon.....ffs....I reckon I got tennis elbow from swatting the fkng things away from my face!

I heard on Countrywide or some such that its due to a dearth of dung beetles. Its weather related.

He is on the money, these are Hover flies, and are a native bee. Don't harm anybody and eat lots of aphids. Best thing for fruit and veg growers.

We've got mosquitos. Sounds like about the same plague proportions as your flies. I'd trade flies for mozzies cause at least they piss of at night.

yep thes fkn flies are drivin me crackas!!!!

The little yellow bee imersonators are everywhere for some reason???

Beware if you have a Jasmine plant (which they evidently luuurrrvve - due to the "Apocolypse Now-like" hourdes that flew around ours the other day) next to your washing line - the flourescent yellow little devils are that exact colour due to the flour yellow turde inside them, which they are very happy to leave behind on your nice white clothes...

I remember reading somewhere that because we had a late spurt of wet weather its taken longer to dry out, so the dung beetles havent grown up/hatched or whatever they do and eliminated lots of fly breeding grounds... so fly numbers are up higher than normal

No flies means a huge build up of dog poo on the beach.

I know what I'd prefer... and it isn't dodging floaters when I go surfing.

Not 100% sure, but I think it is largely to do with the wind direction. Normally during summer we get sea breezes every day, which blows the flies inland, or they just dont fly around. When u get troughs or highs and strong easterlies, the flies move towards the coast, hence more flies, You will always notice them during the troughs and really hot days with easterlies blowing. It could just be that normally at this time of year we generally don't have too many really hot days with easterlies blowing them inland.

Id rather a few lumps of doo crap lying round over 400000000000000000000000000 flies going everywhere. I remember going into a cave at trigg point, and the walls completely covered in flies (i could stand in the cave and it was huge) and i mean completely covered. good fun chucking stuff at them and a huge mass of flies coming out.

Was at Dide Bay on Sunday. Came in from a surf and the ground under my Pajero was black with them. They love the shade but as I stood there they started swarming around me and I reck'n I must have swollowed about 50 before running back to the scantuary of the water
