It's one of the most interesting degrees you can do, and if you are even half motivated, you will excel.. it's not hard stuff to learn. Do it for a degree if you wish, but don't expect to get well paying career out of it (unless you get lucky!!)

I don't know what sort of money a Marine scientist gets, but I guess it will be a bit down the list as opposed to engineering or chemistry.

I personally had went through the same consideration regarding doing the degree I enjoy, and picking the ones which gave me a better financial returns. I chose the later, engineering, then computer programming. I believe Marine science definitely gives you a very fulfilling lifestyle. That satisfies your heart. Unfortunately, one needs to take care of the hip-pocket too.
