Doing a few laps around my favourite beach with a kite starting to get overpowered got dumped pretty heavy near the end of the session so I thought screw this I am going for a beer, hit the line release bar pops out about 2 inches I look down the F#$k$%g line is wrapped around the pin, I look up the kite is starting to loop, in that moment of clarity before the **** hit the fan, Wiley Coyote popped into my head holding that sign just before he fell into the canyon, This struck me as so funny so as I am getting dragged along the water and up onto the beach I was pissing myself laughing, people must have thought I was a maniac, luckily the kite snagged on a sandbar and I managed to collapse it, as I stood there panting for breath the emergency release popped open, just like a parachute deploying after you have already hit the ground, anyone else have a moment like this.

Good to see the recent death in WA with the inability to release his kite can still be seen in humorous terms.
Wonder why some people in the public forums see kiting as a dangerous pastime that needs proper policing and licensing.
Good to see you weren't seriously hurt though it seems it was just a matter of luck rather that good practice.

Get off your soap box, this thread in no way was making reference to that very sad and unfortunate incident.

Yep no reference to that incident intended and it was intended to provide a laugh not provoke a brawl, best practice i check my safety gear religiously before each outing, i don't know what caused the failure for the cord to slip inside and around the pin, but sometimes sh#t happens we all know the risks doing what we do and i take great measures not to put myself or the public in danger. But if you cant laugh why even bother. Put that on my tombstone?

Yeah i'll cop that .
I guess i was just referring to the split second something can go from crazy, to crazy bad.
It's happened to most of us at some stage.
I'm happy to see you walked away from it and can laugh about it now.
