Mark go have a nanna nap. You may feel better.
I believe peoples attitudes in and out the water play a part in "banning" board sports such as what has happened here but lets face the real truth. Councils, local govts and even schools and companies have had massive changes in there attitudes towards any perceived risk. Cottosloe banned building sand castles! Was this due to the attitude of the builders (3 year old kids!!) and there reckless castles in high risk spots??? No it was not Mark. It was to prevent someone rolling there ankle and any possible law case that may follow. I think most metro beaches will head this way in the future and we simply have kiting/water sport specific beaches. (Like we do at most places now) (Mullaloo/scabs/pinneroo etc. It is a shame as it will restrict the younger generations coming into surfing/kite surfing (Due to transport). While our attitudes and actions do matter, in the end I believe this will occur at most beaches.
Yes, this is a result of the council's reaction to risk. Dumb people suing the council means it needs to take steps to proactively protect itself but this is not helped by the irresponsible behaviour of some kiters who ensure that the council's perceived risk is far higher than it should be.
I've seen kiters who have been kiting for less than a year who seem to think they know better than anyone else and who get aggressive about it as well. The attitude of kiters need to change and they need to change quickly.
