Hey Big city lights, What about doing downwinder tour bus runs outta town?

When your out doing your thing along the coast peacfully then all of a sudden its the school bus crew, ARRGGGHH, here they come.

yeah,maybe we should just ban downwinders all together.

It will be heaps less crowded then.

geez, if you know that a bus will turn up at 4.30, then launch 20 minutes before or after, problem solved

and if "the writing is on the wall" I dont think a few extra people a day will change this. perhaps by encouraging responsibilty (with launch areas, interaction with other water users etc) then we can show the rangers we can use the beach safely

Hey Paul aka default, its no stress mate I am not against you..and I appreciate the fact you would take the time to send the email. I find on this forum there is people waiting for new posts so they can poo poo stuff. Now I am not havin a go at you personally at all. I wondered if you were a safety advisor your mindset is to look out for potential risks etc...the thing is kiting isnt this massive dangerous sport etc like everyone gets in a fit about.. its nothing compared to driving your car or getting skin cancer. The beach stretch for DW is amongst the most uncrowded in the metro area...and yes we should avoid swimmers etc ...the reality is kiting will grow regardless of a shuttle service and these people gotto do it somewhere so its better that it has more organization and awareness around this. These guys runnin the shuttle deal sound like they are going about it in a responsible way so give it a fair go and stop jumping to conclusions.
See you in the water your eyeballs are safe!!

you can allways use public buses also to get back to your car - just remember qtr to or qtr past from sorrento, oh and your bus money

Hmmm.. the bus service does sound a bit concerning in some respects. Great effort from those involved to get it happening but maybe needs a tweak?

Can I suggest the bus run goes from Swanny to Floreat instead of to Brighton. As another scribe has pointed out the Floz to Brighton run is pretty crowded already and a mass of numnutz all moving through at once could be carnage. [}:)]

The swanny run is less crowded and has far less other water/beach users around so probably a better idea. Great view too if you like brown-leather @rses n schlongs waving about in the dunes.

I think all the regular locals should pack up and get off the beach when the bus runs are on so that those who want to make use of the service get a fair run without having to fight their way through all those who think they should be the only ones there.
FFS guys Leighton to Brighton is 14 or 15 kms of 95%+ deserted beaches. If you cant manage your own fun kiting session around an extra 20 kiters making their own path home you are the FIRST ones who shouldnt be there. Not the ones who are telling others to stay away.

Try a trip to Tariffa (or any kite beach in Europe etc) some time.
Actually dont. You would be swallowed up and spat out while everyone who knows how to share ground are killing it.
You want a 100 hectares of exclusive space all to yourself head north or learn to develop safe practices on what is probably one of the most uncrowded stretches of suburban beach in the world.
if you cant do that you shouldnt be out there.

Hi guys the commercial shuttle run trip has been done by downhill MTBers for quite a number of years, at first there was opposition mainly from the locals, because of all the blow ins.
But now it is one pretty happy community, all looking down the same path,
more riding, meeting people from all over the place.

I hope it all works for you sounds great

I to was on this bus yesterday. There were only 5 of us, pumps supplied.
Nathan and I pumped up first and were set up, out in the water and well away before the other guys even came down the beach.
I to was riding solo as I went further ahead of Nathan and had one epic session.
Came in at Brighton, packed up, in my car 10 mins later and home 5 minutes after that. No need to go back to City, get the car, get stuck in the peak hour traffic heading back North.
Even though there were 5 of us Down Winder kiters, we were all spread out so the way I see it, there is no impact and certainly no difference to the herds of kiters who do down winders along this stretch each day.

Had a sick session on the bus yesterday.

6 guys on the bus, it turned out that 2 at a time launched.

I kited near 2 people on 2 separate occasions until I got to brighton.

It seems to me that most people that ride the bus either
a) would go out at brighton anyway
b) would do a downwinder anyway with a mate.

Disclosure - I am Antons mate. And I will pay to use the service if he chooses to continue it.

I have been doing a few DWers from cities to trigg its a great run, pretty hectic on the WE with kiters, polies, swimmers, surfers and clubies in the water from Brighton to Trigg.

Anyway Last sunday there would have been 20 people rigging up on the grass at City beach along with others shooting threw from further along the coast, staggered the launch over 10-15mins and I basically kited the strech alone with my mate. If we did get in sync with another kiter either a long tack or a quick rip down the line and we where clear.

Once we hit Brighton it was offshore a 200m and blat down to conties get out of the confusion of mowing the lawn kiters, swimers and poleys, to hit the last few waves before coming in. Its Just too easy to avoid the hassel of trying to ride shore break in this section.

No problems at all with that many people in the water. Weekends are busier than weekdays.

Also Just a reminder dont launch your kite off the grass in the carpark at North CB's as some dude decided to and almost ended up in the side window of the ute he launched next too (had a quite word with him).., plenty on clear sand against the rockwall or north past the gryone.

Luv to try the bus out but cant make the 4.15 time, Be great to see a few more runs at later times, say 4.45 and 5.30pm.
