It's not like the kite shops here are putting massive markups on products like the bookstores or clothing shops do here. We have a good industry here in Oz with good people running good shops. BUY LOCAL!

Could not agree more, Robbo. Support local shops.

Economically speaking supporting the local anything beyond the point of competitiveness is a bad idea, it will result in the consumer getting screwed in the end. Essentially all you are doing is giving the store market power and the ability to raise prices with a smaller fall in demand for their products due to 'loyalty'. By all means support a store if their service is good but surely not just for the sake of supporting something local??? I guess it comes down to value judgements in the end.

I personally cannot afford to buy local anymore unless it's on sale. Being a uni student is my excuse.

Though if I were to go to a store to demo a kite or board I generally am a little more inclined to pay that bit extra.

Ebay IMO however is not worth the risk if it's something listed in China that I can't go see for myself.

This person's bank account origiated in Henan provence, I have many friends in this provence and have told them about this person and his/her name.

If it is a legit name, we may be able to stick it to the barge pole!

Chinese authorities do not react kindly to any form of fraud....if he/she gets caught, they'd be in a world of pain.

We'll see.

Yesterday I got a Nobil 666 '07 model that doesn't even look used off ebay for $335.
Parents said their son is overseas and doesn't need it anymore...
I have a feeling little johnny is going to VERY upset when he gets home from overseas, HAHA!

Quite frankly I'm upset that there is no mention of:
a) multi-million dollars from some dead guy just hanging around,
b) some way for me to get a bigger d1ck (as if I'm not one already), or my personal favourite,
c) an offer of an easy to break the casino.
What has the scamming world come to ?
Disappointed in Brisbane !

I like the idea of this guy getting in trouble with the Chinese authorities.

I have had many customers shop around with overseas offers that all sound great, even from reputable shops in other reputable countries like UK and US. But in the end they always come back, it simply works out close enough to the same and there is a very simple reason for this.

Basically the manufacturers set a world price either in $US or Euro's, they don't sit down and go... lets make our kites cheaper in China and more expensive in Japan, it would just not work, and in the end the manufacturer may as well just set up his own direct distribution straight from the factory and do away with all retailers, (or the retailer who is in one of the countries that has a 'good deal' would do the same thing).

There are of course a few variables like, GST, VAT, exchange rates, import tax, local competition and maybe a brand trying to establish itself, but these things are generally pretty minor and change pretty rapidly.

I've seen beginner customers literally take months going back and forth, does it come with a bar? is it a 2010?, is it a fake? The deals they are searching for are simply not there to be had, otherwise we would all have been doing it long, long, ago.

But Australia has next to no import duty on kites (because we do not make that many here), and a very competitive shop and school environment, for example Perth's the only place I know where beginners are offered free lessons.

So buy local, not to support your local retailing millionaire, but because it makes perfect sense and you won't do better.

Support your local industry, and we all win in the long run.

From what has been posted in this thread, I don't get a 'warm and fuzzy' on this deal, and in Asia that means you walk away!

I am not sure if Padi still does it, but he was offering a rebate on purchase of kite and such if you had taken lessons with him. Padi is Surfconnect proprietor, so not just in Perth can you get free lessons, but also in Queensland.

Looks like a copy of a listing from last week.
same pictures etc

Yep without doubt, however he has gone to the trouble of changing the font on the item description. Some of his dodgy mates have put bids on. I see one of them has a 50% positive feedback.

Ebay took him off after I requested them to check if he was valid for paypal.
They do not reply to individual complaints. He registers a new name the day before he lists the kite. Interesting how the freight to Aus gets cheaper each time, it's down to $32 and he's now in Shanghai !
