PR
You called it before me.
I made the mistake of calling it too early a few weeks back and I jinxed the whole thing.
Ended up pretty ordinary.
Here's hoping you have better luck than me, coz the thought of riding frontside (for the first time ever!) has got me frothing already.

We have many, but perhaps you'll like tomorrows?

Apparently the combined swell will be 11m.

Learn to ride switch. ^^^
Kitesurfing is a totally balanced sport.....if you want it to be.
It's up to you.
Lose the bias and find equilibrium instead.

I agree with you (for once) Slave.
Learning to ride switch is the way to go.
Only problem is when the winds up I never wanna give up a good day on the water, to flail around like a gumby and get my ass fed to me over and over while Im learning to ride switch.
But I guess thats the price you have to pay to get the ultimate rewards hey?
Was thinkin instead of maybe gettin one of them new 'old school' long skateboards to practice riding switch on those windless days.
Anyone got any good tips on how they learnt to ride switch without having to give up too much fun time on the water?

Riding switch is optional but not necessary. Don't see too many pro surfers riding switch, except for that wave KS rode at Padang Padang. whatever Slave.

Your right
I should
But those long drawn out backside bottom turns with the vertical snap off the top sending spray skyward as you use every part of your lower body to bring the board back under you are hard to say good bye to.

The thing is a surfer can (usually) choose to go to a left or right hand break to ride frontside or backside, whatever their preference. Or if its breaking both ways you can choose which way to go.
With a kite you have no control over the wind direction and going right on a S SW in Perth is bloody hard and not nearly as good as goin left. Which means if your a natural footer who can't ride switch you will more often than not be riding backside.
Its nice to ride the other side occasionally. And with the predominant S SW we get here, riding switch is necessary if you wanna do that.

If I'm surfing decent lefts I ride backhand. I like riding backside. I don't switch when surfing.
Same with a kite. I don't switch. Good luck to those guys who do, I know they like riding that way. At the end of the day for me, I ride the way I want. What matters to me is decent powerful turns switch or not...

Riding switch is just another d!ck trick.
Riding backside on a kite feels more like surfing than frontside anyway.

^ I agree with Rowdy's second sentence, having lived and surfed in WA my whole life, surfing predominantly lefthanders I actually taught myself to ride switch one year whilst spending a couple of weeks surfing Jakes. I found it easier to make the late steep drops on my forehand (or maybe it was just that then I wasn't looking directly at the reef) but over the years I went back to natural until it was the only way I would ride, mainly because I love cranking backhand bottom turns.
I probably should practice riding switch more just so I have the chioce but I think on lefts in WA with the SW's it is easier to get more vertical on my backhand as the kite is then more front of you, rather than having to adopt some kind of twisted bowel stance off the top if I am riding goof (switch) because the kite is then behind you.
Strange as it may sound I often ride switch when on a righthander for the same reason.

Back on topic, yep I am hanging out for some frontal conditions to whip up some swell, but have the next 4 days off and go back to work on Wed -Thurs

Since when is perfect harmony through balanced exercise referred to as a d!ck trick ?
Do you call yoga a d!ck trick too ?
Sports that offer a balanced exercise with yin and yang promote a healthy body, mind and spirit.

Why switch? I'm goofy.

Guess I'll have to now in NWy

Or will this be 'harmony and balance' and 'yoga on the water'???[}:)]

Wednesday looks pretty tops to me!

Thursday would be "Make a note to book an early appointment at the physio" day.

I have only ever ridden NW winds a few times and feel unco (on my twinny) enough reversing everything (compared to the usual SW) let alone riding switch on a directional. Tried switching years ago on my surfboard, just about got it wired but got sick of stuffing/wasting too many decent waves.

Yep, I am a one directional twinny rider - it takes skillz to be that backward.

Of course it goes without saying......
Crew who ride switch....also have the ability to ride backside.
They have the choice of both stance options.
They can ride frontside or backside depending on their whim at the time.
But it's interesting to note that invariably they will choose frontside and face the wave like a man.
Why ?
Because of the ease of kite placement.
Correct kite placement......the cornerstone of good wavekiting.
