That's true, but how often do bars actually snap. I've been using one bar on all three of my kites for 2 years now and it's not showing any signs of stress. So strengthwise, they're already up to the job, and adding appendages just adds more complexity.
When you think about it, most of the load is on the centre lines, not on the bar. The bar is only attached to the rear lines, which don't tend to have that much load on. The only time some load might come on the bar is when you are unhooked, but as I see it, guys hold the bar pretty much in the centre when they unhook most of the time.
This off axis hole looks pretty pointless if you ask me. Not to mention the drilling of holes and insertion of screws into the bar could induce a weak point(s) in the bar, right near the existing hole, where stress will be concentrated in the bar anyway.
Kind of like Homer Simpson putting tweed elbow patches on his leather jacket...
