Ha i read this topic and had to laugh!!!!! Shearwater is where people go to learn to kite on the gold coast i have taught there for over 8 years on or off, hell i think i might have even taught Dankron there!!
I love how quick people forget about when they learnt, do you remember Dankron? i do!!
Dave is a great teacher, he is one of the only teachers on the gold coast to have a skippers lic to take people out to the sand banks he also has more teaching cred than nearly anyone else on the goldy at the moment. He is a super nice guy and is more than happy to go out of his way to help anyone out, i have people everyday come in to the shop and talk about how nice a guy he is.
Unfortunately for learners and teaching on the gold coast there is not much room and very few good place's to do it, so for the guys with more experience give them some room or go and kite some where else if you don't like it!!!
Jacko
Dankron i know dave and if he told you off then my guess is you deserved it, just suck it up and move on!!!!
Sorry everyone, i didn't meant to start a war here, i was just pointing my concern about this... in fact i was there on sunday too and Dave was there, but this time he moved the lesson further north so all good there...
I know everyone launches from the grass area but they still have to walk to the beach there, and having an instructor right on the way definitely doesn't feel safe...
As we all been there, we all know that learners always do mistakes, as i did a few, as Paul J can also remember, so what happen if someone is walking down the beach and the student decides to swing the kite around and ends up catching someone else? That was the only reason i approached Dave, 5HiT can happen and it normally happen when we are not expecting, and as Ang said, there were about 10 learners in the water and about 5 experienced kiters there, another reason why Dave should've keep the distance from everyone else.... but Jacko i do remember never having lessons at shearwater we always went on the sandbanks behind wave break island... where there was no one around it... As there was always a big debate of where was safe or not to teach a shear...
But hey all sorted now, Dave wasn't teaching on the launch area on sunday... all i was doing is worrying about everyone's safety even Dave's and his student... I hate creating enemies, and that was the last thing in my head when i posted this note... Kiteboarding is all about fun and friends... so lets end this topic...
cheers,
dan
