Hey!

Time to vent!

Somedays we're at a loss moderating these forums.

The vast majority of posters are excellent value, writing really helpful stuff, keeping it fun and not offending anybody.

However, it's winter and not everybody is getting the wind fix they need so the forums get a little crazy for a while.

We do our best to keep things on track - people have pretty high expectations of our moderation skills here and we do the best we can. Somedays we make mistakes, others not.

Our goal is, and always has been, to have a friendly forum that everybody enjoys.

One recent topic quickly descended into people playing with their willies. Maybe we need a "Grommit Club" category where the < 20's can banter in their "special style"?

There's also plenty of industry politics across the country with people creating aliases to post to themselves and folks with vested interests flaming other businesses/brands. Competition is alive and well in the kitesurfing industry!

A few guys target the writer when posting, rather than sticking to the subject at hand .. I urge these people to "play the ball, not the man".

I just wanted to write that we're 100% focused on keeping the forums a fun, fair and enjoyable place for everybody - writers, readers and sponsors.

There is a limit we can do, as we're the moderators/mediators, not the writers and we encourage everybody to aim high!

We've updated the "Posting Guidelines" to contain more detail, for those who are interested.

Many of you PM/Email me with your ideas, frustrations & grievances, which is appreciated. If you've got some constructive ideas, let us know by email, or below!

To Infinity And Beyond!!

Enjoy .. Lozza

We just had four days, sat/sun/mon/tues, in a row of wind? So there's no excuse for whining at the moment.

Onya Laurie!

Most of the stirrers are anonymous. Maybe make it compulsory to register your real name? May make some think twice before playing the man.

Spot on.

Like most at one time or another I have gotten sucked into a slang match here or there, but really it is ordinary stuff. There just is nothing to gain either way from "yeh slaveIndIdavePuppetrocket... well your the d1ck mate!!" (fnnr fnnr showed him I did).

KITESURFING/SAILBOARDING/OCEAN STUFF and general bollocks time wasting is why we are sposed to be here... if not go play with some matches somewhere

It must be difficult to moderate, however there are less 'sore thumbs' that only post derisive stuff out there at the mo' (geez there was a lot a couple o' months ago!!) so something must be working.

It is hard to weed em out, but if a character is instigating abuse or overt mockery and actually doesn't even address the topic in question, then I reckon that's a candidate for suspension right there. No warning - just caio for a couple of weeks fool. That way a diff of opinion can still be robustly contested (even if a little heated) for hopefiully some info on the topic to be unearthed.

As I say, I'm not pretending to be a glass house, but it's a pity there are so many miserable folks out there solely dishing out this **** because the features (and yes advice most of the time) on Seabreeze are outstanding Loz & co.

Cheers.

Now can I just have some time to get a kite in this weekend???

Oh I forgot to ask Loz, is it far more of a problem on the kiting forums?

There do seem to be much larger king-sized egos involved in kiting, so maybe it is a culture or something that needs to be reigned in a bit in the industry and organisations involved as well?

Dob a knob today?

That should weed a few out pronto!!

I agrre with Dave (he's big apperently so I don't dare disagree) people would be less inclined if they could be identified.

Gotta love kiting - remember what that is...

My brother-in-law had a mini once.

For some reason my cousin and I were getting a lift to somewhere in it.
It had been a really really hot summer and my cousin went to open the air vent.
My brother-in-law shouted "Don't do that!!".
To my cousin, such was his character, this meant he HAD to open it.
His little fingers were quickly onto the airvent and open it up he did.
About six months worth of dead flies and road kill came flying out at 60mph and hit him smack in the face.

Air Vent = Seabreeze
Lauri = My Brother-in-law
Cousin = User
Flies = Every other user waiting for wind.

So think twice before you open that vent!

Yep, it's just a kiting thing. Struggle to remember the last time a post was deleted from the windsurfing forums. The only time was when w___s____ was posting in there about a year or so ago.

When people troll in there with topics like "Kiting is better than Windsurfing" they turn it around into entertainment and nobody gets abused.

I am on cloud nine from four days in a row.

I saw the wind coming, called it www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=29483 (about half way down) and took mon/tues off work.

Yes, it was 35kn (8m bow kite), yes it was wet(wetsuit), but it was hella good.

I can PM you next time I call it?

Meerkat...

1) My manager knows my addiction issues, so if it's windy & I'm not at work, he ain't stupid.
2) At this stage, I'm a one kite quiver. Flying a 13 in some of these winds probably isn't necessarily the smartest thing to do.
3) In light of 1 above, i have the mortgage to consider also. Without employment, no house. No house...no.
4) Thanks for the offer. I'm looking forward to day light saving, weekends, and the occasional flex day (with wind).

Just an idea as to how this could work.

Arrange for the Site sponsors ( there are enough of them and we all tend to shop there and support their businesses at some time or another )to donate a monthly prize. The value of such a prize can be left up to them ( no company wants to be a public cheapskate so a set of stickers probably would not be received all that well ).
This prize could be awarded at random to any forum member but will only be sent to the person being the name and at the address that is supplied to Laurie ( seabreeze ) this address does not have to be displayed on the avatar but held by seabreeze just the correct name needs to be displayed.
Should ensure people submit their real details.

You would feel like a di*k if you won the monthly prize but were ineligable because your details were fake. Particularly if the sponsors are trying to out do each other and that prize was a board of something else expensive.

anyway just an idea.

Are you sure Dave is big, or does he just ride big waves?

Anyway, my question to Laurie is based on the subject title. Has anyone else noticed that day 6 and 7 on the forecast always has clear skies predicted. Even when it's a moer of a front coming in and the wind pattern shows as much yet there is not even a hint of clouds on the little picture. Methinks one part of the forecast is not quite firing on all cylinders?

All sounds painfully familiar except I am spoilt for (supercede technology) choice with 3 old kites. The one bonus I have is that allthough my colleagues know of my wind dependance, they are broadcasters, so are inherently too self-absorbed to give a crud about my interests and connect windy arvos with "Has anyone seen Ian this afternoon" Sometimes it is good to be a minow slipping between the long line nets...
Gotta love shootin thru at 3.30 on daylight saving arvos...

ahhh sweet summer SWesters...

Juddy get yaself a cheap 9/10m C kite. I have a 13m Yarga and a 9m Yarga... noice combo (cost bugger all for the two) for the 16-22kts + 20-30kts days
Hey Juddy are you going to bugger off to Team Fat Head Eddy? (Collingwood/Ch9) At least your mowdell girly will get some Teev work! Just win us one more cup before you go though mate...please?
