Dear newbies, when you land someone's kite, it's always appreciated.

If you are landing a kite, and you grab the kite, and you are standing 2 meters from a grassy area, please put the kite on the GRASS instead of sand, and the other kiter will appreciate it and think VERY HIGHLY of you.

On many beaches there is only sand so naturally there are no options but to land kite on the sand.

But kites often get wet, and if the beach contains grassy areas where the kites are beeing landed, it really helps keep the kite clean and happy when it's landed on the grass instead of sand. Putting wet kite on sand creates a whole load of mess on the kite and causes grief for everyone.

This has been posted in the past, but I notice this season many people land one's kite direct on sand even though the grass area is immediately next to them.

Yeah noobs, also please try and remember to bring 25 meters of red carpet down to the beach with you to lay out between myself and my kite. I don't like walking on the sand when my feet are wet, very irritating having to clean my feet before i get in the car. Just a hint if you want me to say thank you for taking the time to help me out.

Please also help superlizard get the sand out of his vagina.

I'm just thankful someone offered their assistance when I need a kite landed.

The correct thing to do, especially for newbies, is to catch the kite, flip it over, and hold it upside down in the air while the kiter comes and takes the kite from you.

The kiter should go straight to the catcher and take it from them and not hang around fiddling with bars or boards or chatting to people or generally dicking around.

I hate it when people flip my kite over onto the sand and pile sand on top of it, but it would be rude to tell somebody off for doing it.

The catcher should never pile sand on the kite. If conditions are strong enough for the kite to blow away then they should hold it for the kiter to take it and make it safe.

In lighter conditions with an experienced kiter as catcher it's reasonable for the catcher to flip the kite over and drop it on the sand and leave it. That's because the kite would have ended up that way if the kiter had self landed and the catcher can get back to whatever they were doing.

You should be able to tell from body language if people want you to do anything else. If not, catch it, hold it, look expectantly at the kiter for them to come and grab it or signal you to put it down.

Ps I hate when blokes like you give newbies a bad rap.

Two points:

1. It is the responsibility of the kiter to make the kite safe. In fact all launching and landing is the responsibility of the kiter. The catcher just catches and waits for the kiter. The kiter should move to immediately take the kite from the catcher. Obviously an experienced kiter can add their eye to checking stuff and can guide an inexperienced kiter to move to the right position for launching.

2. I always land my kites dry and I usually self-launch and land. I only use a catcher if conditions are extreme and there's somebody around to help. I hate getting sand on my kites because it makes them dirty and causes unnecessary wear and tear.

No. Only if you self launch/land. You have a responsibility when you're doing a CPR (Duty of Care). No one in Australia will sue you. But they might in the US.

In extreme condition you are placing your life into the hands of someone. If someone doesn't feel comfortable, than don't help. Same with a CPR.

You land my kite I will be grateful, flip it over and put sand on it, still grateful.
Stand there holding it, still grateful.
Flip it over and put it down without sand on it, not so grateful.
Seems the Vico's are sensitive about getting sand on there precious kites, must be $hit sand over there??
