who said that i was an expert? I was merely referring to one single aspect of kiting.

secondly, the grass area is not very wide, and with sand right in front of it, people often insist on putting it on the sand even though you bring kite right above the grass... which is cool, as that's what everyone is taught at schools - land kite on sand, and anchor it if necessary. Hence all i was trying to convey is that if you have an option and offer to land on grass or hold kite, it will be simply appreciated. If you don't, that's cool too. Because when you kite very freequently, you start appreciating small little things that improve the overall experience and make things easier and more efficient. However, people on seabreeze (referring to certain posts on the first page) have very sensitive feelings and take everything personally and get offended right away as if i was attacking someone personally ... so again, chill pill works wanders

Superlizard, you approached this the wrong way. I'm assuming this is at Altona because I can't think of anywhere else this would be appropriate, but the solution is simple:

1. Any experienced kiter should know to put the kite on the grass, therefore no point in pointing the finger.
2. If it's a noob, what the **** are they doing in Altona in the first place? I thought we had an accident less than a month ago where KBV even changed their website to say "No beginners at Altona".

Therefore, simple solution to post without negative feedback would have been:

"Hi Guys, it's superlizard here. Beginners are still going to altona! What the **** are you people/shops/instructors thinking? Please stop sending the beginners there before we have another accident"

We don't have this problem in WA... All the grass got blown away by the wind..

Isn't landing on the grass at Altona just taking one more unnecessary risk for the sake of a bit of material? you do not have much room between the grass and the road / power lines straight behind it. After witnessing the accident at Altona a few weeks ago I have started setting up / launching and landing as far from the grass as possible eg as close to the water as I can to allow time in case of any incident ever occurring. To be fair I pump up and put my kite away on the grass so I can clean it or let it dry etc before putting it in the bag. After witnessing the Altona accident and seeing experts like Ben Wilson getting injured last week I think it is safe to say accidents can happen to anyone at any time so it is sensible to always take precautions.

Yeah. I agree, I was just taking the piss. If my kite is wet, I fly it for 10 minutes longer till it dries so sand sticking to the kite is never an issue. Then I move it behind the wall to roll up because you can leave it flat on the ground because of the wind shadow. I've never liked the grass on the sand area because you get thorns on there sometimes.

If I'm landing someone's kite that I don't know or have never seen kite before and I'm landing it on the beach not only will I land it on the sand, I'm gonna cover that fu@ker in sand aswell. The last thing I want is to land your kite for you and then you stand the on the beach for 5 mins thinking about how good your last turn was and then a gust blows and sends you and your sand allergic kite down the beach and into something or even worse someone!

And what about the grass stains on your kite? Those are really hard to remove. Ask mummy.

- admitting, it was pointless posting it. Mind you when i was getting into sport, i was happy to pick up and absorb any little tips and tricks from other posters... I'm still sticking with my approach - if i'm landing your kite, i will make eye contact, try to understand your intentions, and land on the grass area (if applicable)... I know for a fact that my local kite buddies appreciate this.
- I don't see how I need chill pill, it's certain other posters that got off launching into me - i'm still totally cool about it
- that I'm ungrateful is incorrect - I reiterated my appreciation about anyone landing a kite few times.
- also, not overly precious. my kite gets trashed and dirty all the time... this thread was simply about using some intuition to pick a better choice if you already have it...
