I'd personally like to see more of the videos published purely as a warning to newbies not to try this kind of stuff.

People seem to think posting this sort of thing is bad. We can all sit back and pretend this kind of **** doesn't happen but the reality is we see this every day at the beach (not necessarily this type of launch) and newbies need to be aware of how quickly things can go wrong and what the potential outcome is.

Posting the video doesn't change the fact that it happened and it doesn't change the behavior that happened on the day. Posting the video is a good warning to those considering trying it that it's a really bad idea. As long as the kiteboarding community are publically rebuking this kind of behaviour, Mr Joe Public understands that it's a minority of people.

Just to clarify peoples: OP stjepan is a somewhat special mate of Alex Sanz's, however this is not him in the vid. It'a guy called Michael Tovey in Bristol UK.

I agree - this is a great 'what not to do' video showing almosts everything you can do wrong when launching, recovering etc :/

Unbelievable, but i'm sure it happens more often than we think.

On that Cabrinha IDS launch, I have had the bridle lines pick up algae during the drift and a pulley jam, causing the kite to only be launchable from one side and then it would just fly over the window and crash on the other side.

Also, when feeding the lines out, if you dont have a boat to tie off to, how do you sort out a tangle? I found I had to make sure the lines were wound correctly and make sure to actually lift off all 4 lines each time from the bar to avoid tangles.

When spinning the kite from nose toward you, I found that if the rear line to the furthest end of the kite passes over the kite instead of under it, I had to pass the bar through the lines to correct it.

So there are many ways that drift launching can go wrong. In shallow water, you also have to be concerned about lines snagging on something on the bottom.

In the Exmouth Duckpond clip, having balls on the ends of the lines where they connect is just asking for a tangle.

Would have been a good idea to deflate the kite before unhooking it instead of giving it a second chance to smack him into something.

DUDE you are lucky nobody else was close!
Note when kites death loops for whatever reason release the kite of you straight away, you were getting dragged for quite a while. You are even more lucky it wasnt windier.
To release kite from you is the only way to keep it from powering up in this situation and to stop the deathloop.

We had a guy that put his frontlines through the backline bungee on a North Rebel and kite went into a bad deathloop. He ejected straight away tho.

What a total noob...that dude broke every rule in book.lucky to walk away from that one, soon as I saw him unwinding the lines and there was a knot in them , the kite flipped over and bang the guy was a passenger after that.

Can't believe when he unhooks it off the sign he just let's it go.....? Lucky he didn't
Take out those other guys , or a bystander..
