Hi,

I would like some feedback from those of you who have flown the Link.

It would be nice if the comments aren't along the lines of the endless dribble about bow v's C...and 'oh man you guys rock, loved your new kite', ass lick bs.

Just some objective comment.

Thanks.

Well have not flown it yet, but I have stock, and I have pumped one up in the shop for a look.
Very interesting kite, and it will be interesting to see how it feels in the air and on the water.
It has 9 struts, all one pumped. It has a batten between the line connection points, and another thinner one on the trailing edge.
trailing edge is scalloped. Struts are thin at the tips and thicker where they are literally moulded into the very thin leading edge. Very cool looking struts, especially the centre one!
The kite needs to be pumped up hard, 10 psi is recommended, so look after your pump!
I really like how they have incorporated the split strut design and traditional Slingshot Fuel colour scheme/look into the LINK.

Bag is the same great design as the TD, just a nice shade of blue.

Rec retail on the 12M is $2049, check my website for more details over the next 48 hrs.

Hopefully we will get some wind to test one out soon.

hey, yeh i tried the link for a about a half hour the other day and from that i could feel that it worked totally different to the fuel ( i own a fuel 9m). i used the bridle setp on the 9m link and it had a pretty fast turning speed and when the bar was sheeted out it felt like a 7m in the middle it felt like a 9m and when fully sheeted in it was like a 11m. would be a great kite if you can only afford 1 kite in your quiver(me). i had a great time on it in about 11-18 knts hell gusty im about 55kg, well thats all i can tell you but im definetaly going to try it some more.

I rode the 9m Link yesterday, very nice to ride , smooth fast and constant compared to some other flat kite i have ridden, it turns very fast .....the bar set up is really a breakthrough and it works

as usual with Slingshot it was perfect straight out of the box...no finetuning needed.

I rode it on the 4 line bride but I think it ride more like a C shape on the 5 line direct to kiten setup which is coming.....

The 9 would equate to the power range of an 11 C

This kitwe is avail for Demos in Cairns / yorkeys knob see the Its extreme crew there Sunday

thanks bruce

Thanks for all the feed back...

One question, is the 5 line and 4 line a different bar (4 line has pulleys and 5 line does not)?

If so, do you need two bars if you want to have both options?

i had a ride on a 9m and it was great. was out in low winds and it still performed. me old man had a go on it too and he even said when he put up his 9m fuel that the link had heaps more power. the bar was really light and incredibly easy to use. i say go ahead and try one cuz u'll probably like it.

give choicey a call and he'll prob give ya a demo

We are all still waiting to see the 5 line kit, but I am sure it does not involve another bar. Its a kit that quickly converts to Link to fly as a five line kite, like the Ozone Instinct and the North Reble.

You dont need a seperate bar. It is easily converted to 5 line. The 5th line travels down through the stopper ball through the bar and through the chicken loop of the same bar you use in the 4 line bridled config. I think in the 5 line kit it's just a set of different lines you connect to the kite.

I've seen today a Link (12m) in a very hard 18 K terribly gusty and shifty wind, when few bows (including my 12m Crossbow) dropped from the skies.
The link was full of power, although I think it was not fully inflated, as at a moment flipped over, so the guy flying it had to flag the kite which came down in a "death spiral" heating pretty hard the sand.
However as I said before, it was a hell of a gusty, swirly, shifty, NNE on Middle Brighton Beach, and the "action" happened on the south side of the beach, known as "the corridor of death" in Northerly winds.
Other ways, out in good wind, the kite looked good and powerful, pretty fast turning, and lots of wind range. It was in the bridled configuration. Looking forward to try it in the future.
At the same time I've seen a new Crossbow. A dramatic change in the shape of the struts, one point inflation, change to stronger material for the LE and struts and a new seem technique, improving the quality of the kite.
The kite was impressing in flight, was only a 9 m with a medium weight kiter in 18 knots very gusty winds, going really nice upwind.
Very exciting day today at Middle Brighton Beach

I chatted to a couple of the guys who tested it today at Brighton Middle and I can only think there was something wrong with the setup because all of the ones I spoke to complained about very slow steering and no low down grunt at all. It may be a problem that the rear lines were long than they were supposed to be because reports back just seemed a little too negative.

As per my question in the reviews section, would the 9m be suitable for me in the Perth on season instead of my lift 10? I'm 105kg, like being powered and like c-kite characteristics.

What is recommended retail on the 9m?

Well if not permanent I'll be there for a few years before going anywhere else. Have already lined up accom in Nollamara but might buy a spot closer to Peli or something as time goes on.

And yes it will be home base for many visiting kiteboarding Saffers and Taswegians.

12m Slingshot Link went up today in 5 line Config. Riders who tried it in this configuration preferred it this way. Kite turns fast and easy to rig up into 5 lines. You basically take of all the bridle and pulley system (except for the back lines) until you have a bare leading edge. The 5th line has 3 connection points. 1 connection in the middle of the leading edge like normal c kites 5th line and then 2 lines splitting in a Y shape coming off the 5th line. This is referred to as a pitchfork. The kite felt very different and was very easy to fly. Water relaunching maybe a bit different, its probably a slightly different technique as with the North Rebel.

Just had to get myself one having read all the gumpf on the slingy site as well as a few of the total rave indy reviews elsewhere.
This has gotta be THE numero uno awesomest ever kite - cant wait.
Only problem for you Nick is I wont be back in WAAA till Dec.
Reckon you will probably own at least 2 of them by then

So good to see you on the forum again Puppet, man I've missed you.

There will be plenty of wind when you come back home in Dec.

Yea, would love to fly your kites, still hanging out to try the zeppelin.

Does you not being back home before Dec. mean that you are not going to make it to Exy? It would be sad not to be up there with you, but if it must be so be it. Have you thought of flying in for a week or so?

You may be right about the cheap SS Fuels though. All the youngsters seem to have found a thing for these stupid flat kites.

I just can't make up my mind on what set up to get this year, but there is no wind yet anyway. It is starting to feel Springlike though.

Good to hear from you.

Hey Loosy, can't wait to see you when you come back also. The place is getting crowded with 600 people a week moving to WA and all. I wonder what % of them are kiters...prob. pretty high.

Hi Andrew,

Saw your comments on the forum and I would value your opinion.

Me and my girlfriend are completely new to Kiteboarding and have only managed to get on the bopard for about 10 min after IKO lessons.

Whilst in Noosa, we decided to purchase our gear and opted for a 2007 Slinshot Link 12m and a liquid force board.

We took it out to Noosaville and the popular kitesurfing training spot and it was a disaster. It would not fly at all! It would only stay up for a few seconds before something unexpected happened. Once it crashed on the water we would need assistance of another 3 people to get it back up and even still it looked like something is not right.

Then again we tried it in Surfers Paradise and again the same thing. We started to doubt our own abilities on flying the kite!

For a third time we tried again in Port Douglas and spent our entire day just trying to get it to fly!. Needless to say this whole experience has dampened our new found enthousiasm of the sport and has knocked the confidence we build during intense hours of (expensive) kiteboarding lessons. So in total we have actually got the kite to fly for about a minute since purchasing it

Did some digging around and found that there had been some problems (we have been trying to fly it as a 5 line all along and it was actually set up as a 5 line from the shop purchased (Kitesurf Australia). The modifications highlighted on the SS website were carried out by ourselves (a big guessing game to a complete amateur on how to make those changes BTW). Since then we have not flown the kite. (we are waiting for it to be shipped from Oz to New Zealand which is where we are now). Would kit fly better now? Would we be able to enjoy it as it was intended??

My concern is that looking at all the hassle we had to go through with this kite and the amount of money spent we would have liked to have a good product. There is also a lot of negative feedback on this kite and I am getting worried we bought a dud.

Ideally we would like from SS to have a look at this and fly it for us since we would not know handling characteristics etc etc. We just want to carry on our learning on this kite and have some fun.

We are in NZ till the 5th Jan 07 then off to Argentina for a month ( it would be nice to kitesurf there)

Any ideas??

Many Thanks and happy Chistmas!
Vas

the issue is not that the kite doesnt fly, it does very easily. It is more that the kite when in its middle to upper windrange is very unstable.

I would say your inability to fly the kite is more to do with your lack of skill than the kite itself.

guys, kitesurfing is a fun but difficult sport.

get to know your theory first. buy a dvd like 'the complete kitesurfing guide'

do you actually know what you are doing?
maybe learn how to fly a 'little' kite first!!!!
