I did my lessons at Mullaloo in January 2009 with Kiteboarding Perth which is Rob Gannon's Business.

My instructor was Tony and the whole focus of the 6 hours of tutelage i received was safety, safety and more safety.

Both Rob & Tony have been more than happy to offer advice since i finished my lessons and i still pester poor Tony with questions about gear & Travels.

They are totally professional kiters who care about the sport & the safety of other beach users.

I agree there is so much crap spoken in these forums that some people forget this is a kiteboarding forum and not a place to have a go at people when they are asking for help

I think that the councillors, mayor and CEO did a pretty good job sifting through the crap at last nights meeting and there was a fair bit of it going around, in other topics as well as our own, they were onto those that weren't straight up and seemed to have BS radar going. I feel they had a genuine interest in the kiting issue and were all very attentive throughout all deputations, questions and summaries.

We must place our trust in these councilors, they are the elected representatives of the community and you don't get that support by being a dill. You could see their direction in thinking by the questions they were asking. I feel confident that the councillors will make the right decision and there is enough wisdom in the members to sort out a decision which will work for all.

The MSLSC was unbiased, they presented only facts and didn't hype anything more than what they had. They were honest and professional. When they were asked which option they preferred from a safety/patrol point of view, their answer was of course always going to be in favour of a ban. It is the easier when there are less things to worry about. I think if the question asked had been, "which do you think would be the fairest and most reasonable option?", it would have been 1 or 3.

The thing is that they must look at the problem the same way we do as kite schools. We/they have to decide on "risk management" not risk elimination. You cannot eliminate all risky parts of life, it just wouldn't be worth living.

Thanks heaps for your efforts.

I could not attend but sent a personal email to my counciler (who, when I asked her position ahead of the recent election, stated without being led that she thought "an outright ban would be unfair' - that is why she got my vote!).

I hope fairness and sanity win over small minded fear.

Just kidding mate, I believe your heart is on the right side of the sport and your contributions are really funny, well sometimes.
I didn't want to associate you with the anti kite surfing community group as they should really be called, but they do use the forum to gather ammunition in their attack

City of Joondalup council will be making their decision about kiting @ Mullaloo beach on Tuesday 21st September 2010. WAKSA and Mullaloo Kiter User Group is lobbying hard to ensure that access remains open at Mullaloo beach and that the dreaded “Option 2” does not get up. Our advice to Council has been that our preferred outcome would be Option 3, but we have also indicated to Council that as a fallback, Option 1 would be acceptable.

WAKSA has committed to work with the City of Joondalup, the Mullaloo Surf Club and all other stakeholders to find a way forward to ensure that the beach stays open for kiters and address any concerns they may have. We have provided CoJ with significant details about how access can be maintained and managed. We hope that our ideas are being given significant, positive consideration by the Council and we will continue to lobby and work with Joondalup up until Tuesday night to get the right outcome.

The Council meeting will be held on Tuesday 21st Sept 2010 commencing @ 7.00pm, Joondalup Civic Centre Boas Avenue Joondalup.

We had a great turn out at the Briefing Session this week – we need an even bigger turn out next Tuesday night. Council needs to see how much is at stake for kiters.
