of course you can, you will need a pretty windy day to use the boat as a kite though...

It will be a little harder to go upwind but its good enough for start.

Even you might be able to pin fins into your board, its cheaper than buying a new board

I would suggest that if you do use your wake board then get an impact vest or life vest for a bit of bouyency. This will help when you spend time relaunching after crashing the kite.

Ha when I started I got sold a wake board as a kite board.
Not good to learn on.

Harder to go upwind.
More wind required for me about 5-10knts or a kite 2mt bigger.
No flex so no pop out of water for jumping ( once more experienced ).
Board is heavier.

A wake board is viable but the minute you jump on a good kite board you'll be begging your girl for the extra $$$ to upgrade.

You'll quickly work out the rivalries in Seabreeze forums:

Bindings / Straps / No straps
Twin tip boards / Surfboards
Windsurfers (Poleys) / Kitesurfers (Teabaggers)
C-kites / SLE
Freestyle / Wakestyle / Surfstyle
ad infinitum

Everyone feel free to enlighten asselim!!

It's obviously more fun when people disagree on something they're passionate about

Ask a simple question ay? .....

to learn to kite use a kite board, its more beginer friendly

with a wakeboard....
- its more difficult to starts, you have to put your foot in the binding while keeping the kite flying at the same time
- crashes are way more painfull with bindings than with straps
- kiting is more tiring, cause you have less freedom of movement.
- the board is heavier, so more difficult to move around

I prefer going at a cable ski park with my kiteboard

My 2bits...

1. If you use bindings you risk broken legs/ankles/dislocated knees.

2. And avoid using leg ropes too - esp in surf. Kites go way faster than surfers - leg ropes are not safe at kite-speed.

Its safer to lose your board, trawl back to shore, and pick it up on the beach later.

You do raise some valid points, like slightly more difficult to get your feet in.

However, I really don't get the crashes are more painful, you will do more injuries etc. argument.

When I have a nice positive connection to my board it stays where I want it.

I still believe there is nothing worse for your knees than a 'one foot in straps, one foot out of straps' scenario!!!

Also I don't really understand the more tiring argument?

I find that it is much less tiring than straps, you really don't want freedom of movement in that area!
The freedom of movement comes from your hips.
The only time you may want movement there is with a wide board (surf board, skim board) so that you can vary the weight distribution.

oh and I can't stand my kite board at cable! Just needs that little bit more rocker

thts a load of sh!t just cos u ride bindings doesnt mean u get hurt more, foot straps have way higher likelyhood of injury, i hear way more of people twisting ankles n stuff from one foot in one foot outs than i hear of people doing in their knees with boots, only reason people in boots do their knees in aswell is because the crew that use em are generally at a level above average kiters and ride harder, high level strap riders probably get injured more.

seeing as u come from a wakeboarding background i think ul enjoy bindings way more once ur up and riding

- let ur kite rest at edge of window, its not hard flyin 1 handed either
-no they are not
- stop being lazy its no different
- it is a little heavier but you have far better control on ur edge and u can move the board around way better
- i dont get why? kiteboards outrun the cable on fast landings anddd they are knee busters on those heavy pop and drop landings

I agree with phrase. - When you crash the kite and trying to relaunch, if your feet are strapped in, it is fairly hard to swim with your feet to keep you afloat, as they are strapped in. Which is why wakeboarders usually wear a vest, whilst they are waiting in position for the boat to pull them up, otherwise you will sink.

For the price of a cheap kiteboard, i wouldn't bother using a wakeboard until after the learning stage. As it would be quite difficult to keep the kite at zenith, when you are trying to strap your boots on in the learning stage.

Goodluck with whatever your decision is

After watching a beginner with binding on his board walking up the beach for the 10th time because, as you know, beginners have trouble going up wind, he than had to attempt to fit on his bindings while controlling a kite in the shallows. I thought an extra set of arms would have been useful at this point. Each time he struggled for about 10 minutes before he got going again.

Most learners have trouble with sliding feet into straps and controlling a kite let alone having to manage a boot. If it was me learning again I would not go for bindings first up. You've got enough to think about.
