That is exactly what I would do, and I think DP may be onto to something there in regards to making it known that you are a newbie.
Well it's as simple as getting one of those plastic floppy 'L' plates from a service station and pinning it to the back of your harness. That would be quite proactive of a newbie to do such a thing; but to be honest the sort of humble learners that would actually do this aren't usually the ones that are the problems.
