I live in Adelaide and went for one our local shaperers to make my surfboard.
The board complete was $710.00 what I got was a board for the local conditions a bit heaver glass job so it wont break. I also got to put in some of my own input.
The board is like a fish style board with a round square tail.(saftey reasons)
The shaper has built surfboards,kiteboard,sailboards over the years.
He uses a computer based program to get the shape then sends off the file gets foam C&C cut. When it arrives in the factory he then hand finishes it off then glasses it.
He also put some sponsors on the board as well.

Careful of the Tufflite boards.
You want one that's heavily glassed, otherwise it will sit too high in the water and skip.
I had a Byrne 6'1" Tufflite that was probably OK for a light person to surf on but just bobbed around on the surface too much using it for kiting and didn't bite and would easily spin out on hard turns.
I now ride a Slingshot SST, almost exactly the same dimensions but heaps more glass and it's a completely different board. MUCH better board for kiting. And, it's almost bomb-proof, whereas you'll damage or snap a fibreglass board quite easily if you're not super-careful.

Hey M8,
I'm stoked on the 6'5 vodka cruiser board I won at the local kite shop (I mean bottle shop)
cost me 3 x 4 packs, the girls loved me for buying them drinks over the festive season
and am currently in tassie test riding it (top secret)
