2) Personally & organisationally, the rise in number of the fly by night schools is noted and is a concern;

There's the answer. Fly at night. All kites, all beaches

this will start a few fires, lets say if u are not employed to teach through a shop u dont get to teach , records of time spent teaching is recorded and maybe some of these people will pay there taxes like everyone else shops can then place one instructor at a particular beach, its just an idea to deal with what is becoming a very big issue

I message the Cockburn council years ago about woodies (and posted on here) saying that they required more infrastructure because it was an ever increasing high traffic zone for water users. The infrastructure in that particular area doesn't not support the level of water users . Shire replied with " We cant help you" talk to the DEC. Area has been due for a facelift to accommodate & suit not only the Cockburn community but a plethora of other water users from surrounding shires.
I havent been there for over 4 years so id hate to think what it is like now ?

A kite-surfing instructor should be an accredited profession with qualification is this not the case?
Once there is a few accidents it probably will be. Probably a resolution is a kite license!!!

There are way to many kiters around these days anyway. I think it will be best if all schools are banned, freeing up beaches and restricting the numbers of new kiters to the sport.

Who would rescue your sons board then

Good point.
Ok, ban all schools except yours!

This year especially, Woodys beach one is a ZOO! Way to many schools in the one location its fully overcrowded. There is Room for one school only. You'se guys and gals (the schools) need to communicate with each other and work out who stays and who goes. When an accident does happen it will be because of this problem.
To show some "RESPECT" to the many regular local riders, I suggest you go way down towards the eastern end of the beach. You can pick a carpark down there to yourself and your students while freeing up the western end beach and carpark.
The local crew and vibe at beach 1 has always been layed back, because of the overcrowding problem here it is now at boiling point.
Please get it sorted out between yourselfs.
If your making money from the beach,
Then make an effort to put something back into the beach.
Peace schoolies.
Herby. Woof, woof!

As far as Woodies beach one being a designated and ideal place to teach, I dont agree. The beach is narrow, the wind is almost directly onshore, it is crowded, and at certain times there are waves that make relaunching far from ideal for beginners, not to mention it has reef.

Dave...... you've nailed it.

Woodies 1 is a terrible learning spot.
Its south facing and more or less on shore in a seabreeze. In a southerly its direct onshore.
I've seen people dragged over the dunes, into the car park slammed on the beach etc etc.
I don't know why anyone would choose to learn at woodies 1.

Too easy to fly under the radar and operate as a cowboy school, just go get yourself an IKO instructors ticket and go for it dude. So called schools and operators all over the country with no permits and no overheads just doing as they like and sisappear into the sunset when things don,t go quite right.

Happening at Old Bar and Along the Mid nOrth Coast right now. All you need to do is contact NSW Maritime and Local Councils to find out who is legite and who is full of ......

Do it right, protect our water ways and kite safe

Darren you are WRONG. Check with your insurer.

I wasn't going to reply but .....

I have checked with my insurer and on the forms I filled in, I had to list the council as an interested party.

I have nothing to gain or lose by all these Woodies issues.

My information comes from dealing directly with councils and insurers with whom we deal to gain permits and insurance.

If I am WRONG, no stress, I'll happily come on here and publicly apologise. If you are wrong, you may lose your business and your home .

Didn't you get your information from an insurance broker who was selling you an insurance policy??? Lots of people were sold insurance for floods in QLD too but when the crunch came ...... well you know the rest.

Like I said, I have no personal or business investment in the issues you guys are facing so I offer this advice as a fellow kiter and school owner. I would be speaking to a lawyer and not an insurance salesman when you are betting the farm.

I don't want to get involved in a retailers tiff BUT, i was involved in a insurance cliam in 2009/10 due to a extreme water sport injury, lots of paperwork and many phone calls followed, this was a organised event, permission from the local council was in place, the club who organised had insurance. 12 months later a payout from the club insurance was agreed. Not once in all of the paperwork and phone calls were the insurance company interested in the council, all they were interested in was trying to find a reason not to payout.
I have to agree with DM, be very carefull out there guys, a small, hardworking, honest shop/school person holds no fear to a big insurance company, takeing on a council would be a different ballgame, imo

keep it safe

so does a Body like WAKSA register each school - organise insurance and issues beach licences - limits each beach to a certain number of schools????
i've seen this system in France with surf schools, you don't want to go down that road. Politics, payments, etc etc....

an industry body with a limit to how many schools at a beach - with a roster if there are too many schools at the one beach. that way you put up or look else where.

There is no easy answer here ... but this is a great place (seabreeze) to brain storm new ideas rather than bitch about the current situation. We have an opportunity to think outside the square here. this is different to surf schools, different to windsurf schools, Kite schools take up a lot of room and they inpact on other beach users (including Kiters not leaning in schools).

Lets go to DEC and the city of Cockburn with a plan and a vision..... then they may spend the time and the money to create the best kite surfing location in the world..... VOTE allano for Prime minister... sorry getting carried away
