Since starting the Wollongong Ilawarra group of kiteboarders there was a huge interest in being part or a proactive social scene that was dearly needed in our area. Although due to lack of support or other selfish reasons by Wollongong AKSA members this has now been put to rest. The general feeling is that this area is ours and outsiders arent welcome, which are NOT my veiws. Time spent trying to educate the locals about inviting others to share our beaches has been a complete failure. A shame really as this has been a big part of my summer trying to gather support and establish some sort of social outlet. The general feeling is not to promote this area as a great kiteboarding destination, which it is! A email has been sent to effected members informing my disappointments of this season and one could only hope things will and can change. Id like to thank the support of AKSA, NSWKBA and the hard working people behind the scene that make this sport worthwhile, ive given it a shot and now its time for somebody else to try and turn it around. Hopfully someday these guys will wake up to themselfs and realise that they arent the only water uses in this area.

maybe they need someone else to organise it who has a certain amount of social skills .... and someone who actually gets out in the water ... and who can do some tricks.

Sean I think there would be a huge interest in the group if there was actually something proactive being done.

In the year that I have been kiting what exactly has been organised? The 3 or 4 times I have seen you you have never told me about a wollongong club.

what exactly do we need educating about ? there have been lots of non local kiters out this year and no one has had any problems.

Mate fair go. This has nothing to do with kiteboarding. You have the ****s because you feel left out. How many times did you kite this summer? all you needed to do was be around and the invites would have been there. I said to you afew weeks ago come around bring my dvds back and we'll have a beer you did'nt show. I just can't believe you would post on here crying no body loves me. Private e-mail was enough. Who ever said your in charge anyway. Shane, Steve E, Steve N, Jay, even Dave would have been better as they are always around. For **** sake delete this thread Sean you are making a fool of yourself

OK, lets get this into persective. This group started 18 or more months ago, so ive been active both in kitesurfing and trying to establish a committee since then up until after christmas. The committee was picked and notified, Shane you put your hand up to represent the Windang boys then put up a stink to say you now didnt want to do it, you know what im talking about so your input is invailed, oh and by the way 8 years doing kitesurfing can lead to some boredom in the sport and with age and the onset of ahernia directly related to the sport is a fair assumption that I can no longer do insane tricks of even risk breaking my back or other serious injuries, whos going to pay the bills. Leigh, yep I didnt end up finding the time to come around, your DVDs are safe, the wife hasnt chucked them out yet. Lets say well catchup soon. Macca, the freindly dude that you are your not really the stereo typical guy to point the finger at so count yourself invaild as well, no offence. Cabron, I hadnt noticed you around, not a local! Rack off noddy! Dont expect me to be visting soon, Botany is far to fly blown for my liking these days, ill leave that to the steriod boys. That last point to mention is that NSWKBA needs somebody as a rep from this area and I expect nobody to be putting there hand up. Sad as it is as I was the only guy traveling to Sydney for meetings and not once did I spot another kiter from my area. So dam typical, we all enjoy this sport but nobody will do any of the promotion of AKSA and NSWKBA that is critical to this sport. Funny enough how many of you guys are members? Doesnt insurance become a priority, its all too late when the s##t goes down. On closing, isnt wonderful how powerful the humble computer can be.

I don't know about that. I had an awesome session down in that neck of the woods yesterday. All the locals I met were good blokes. 5hrs of solid north-easter and I made a few new mates while I was at it.
The only person who didn't seem friendly was some guy who stood on the beach watching in his work clothes, but never actually went out....

The only good kiters in Wollongong come from botany bay. Wollongong should be called Zoobaland. They don't even ride drop knee. What are you gonna do at meetings anyway? Practise POPPING off, spinning out, different holds of the bar. Or just hold erections I mean elections.

Come on, everyone knows that forming associations and having meetings is very important! How else can you talk endless **** and show everyone how much you know about kitesurfing? What about making rules? Kiting needs more rules! Having an association is the best way I can think of to promote our sport to heaps of people. We need more kitesurfers! I don't want any sessions with just me and a few of my mates, I want to have flocks of kitesurfers at every beach! Then we can all stand around in the carpark and talk **** about how dangerous that bloke is, and how much better this other guy would be if he upgraded to this latest whiz bang equipment.

The Glub might of not worked the first time, try again,im sure the first time you tried to get on a board you diddnt give in and have a whinge for the whole world to see. forget about it and just enjoy kitin once more

If the wollongong scene is DEAD, the south coast scene is half decomposed, with maggots crawling around in the eye sockets feeding on the last scraps of it's stinky remains.
Just the way I like it.

Maybe your going about this the wrong way.

I don't think that flying your kite through other locals lines constitutes communication.

The locals seem to be ripping and have my respect, the harsh reality is you should go back to Botany Bay as you NEVER ride if it's over one foot anyway

Where do you get off saying, "that I can no longer do insane tricks" Your not that good a kiter, Prove me wrong and post JUST ONE PHOTO of your once insane tricks.

This thread is a classic..I think Kytesrfn might be self launching and landing for a long time to come.[}:)]

Kytesrfn here's an idea. Why don't ya just kite and enjoy a few beers after with the boys, don't worry about committee's and stuff. We've all played team sports right!! What ruins team sports, committees and referees. But from the responses it all might be to late for you.

If the issue is making visitors welcome, well WTF...Kiting is going to follow the surfing culture I'm afraid. Localism will always exist and visitors should show respect and most the time all will be alright. Everyone has a local and everyone travels we all have to go through it.

If you want to organise something, do what the blokes up Perth have just done with the wave comp. Look at all the positive feedback, spontaneous event and those up for it went and from all reports had a great time.

What a joke... Go and try take a wave of a local at Kalbarri mate and see what happens. That is an example LOCALISM.
