Hi guys and Girls,
We were the school and instructors who ran the Kitegirls sessions at Kitestock just a while back. We had 11 women on the first day and then an additional 5 turned up on the Sunday. The ages, sizes, experience and motivation was as different as could be which shows that you cannot really pigeon hole or stereotype the type of ladies getting into the sport. All they really need is a spirit of adventure, a little self confidence, a caring and understanding instructor and a passion for excitement and the elements.
We have had more girls that ever before take on lessons and buy rider packages which shows a new level of commitment we haven't seen previously from the ladies. Most bought kites and are continuing to learn and progress.
In the upcoming year we will be conducting more kitegirls clinics, kitegirl introduction days and other new programs to aid girls getting into the sport. What I have noticed is the dropping number of girls who are training to be instructors. It used to be that around 12% of all instructors on the courses I have run were girls, but that has dropped to around 8% and the numbers that actually teach drop even further. C'mon girls, you have more than enough physical ability, mental ability and in most cases as much determination as most of the guys, not to mention make better instructors if you believe in your own abilities.
Being a kitegirl has little to do with femininity or being butch, career, physical ability, background or anything else. You can still kite, get in great shape, enjoy your career, have a great relationship, have fun, excitement and adventure, meet new friends and still radiate and enjoy your feminine energy.
Maybe it's time some guys found a little more respect and acted more like mature men and not like teenage boys. This one factor could have more bearing on the amount of new kitegirls entering the sport than any other single thing.
C'mon guys, and girls step up!
Good winds,
