Kites could come stock standard with a gallant gentleman to pump up for you (lucky I already have one)

Best I can manage is 6PSI and my kite needs 7 to 8.

Check out......

www.fksa.org - go to Kite 4 Girls day and check out the photos
I can't believe they can actually kite without their bikini's moving!!!

With all the wind we get in Australia surely someone can organise such an event annually?!?!

Yeap…..brave move taking the bikini top option.

With the goal of containment in mind, I’ve taken to donning two halter neck bikini tops and that’s still veiled under a rashie.

Maybe they’re using double sided tape?

Could that contravene competition rules?

Where are most of the girls? WA? NSW? It's not the Gold Coast, only 6 here.

Where would most of us like to go for such an event?

I vote for somewhere tropical, warm, clear water, no stinging or biting things and of course WIND. Is there such a place? Where would everyone like to go

Maybe not, but if you find it please invite me

Coastal Vic' offers everything but the tropical aspect during summer, but it's oh so short, and it's oh so sweet

Now we just have to cover the other 8 months, or so, of the year.

6 girls riding in an area as small as the Goldcoast is pretty impressive! I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that QLD has the most girls riding. Don't know why, I just think there is.

I like your idea of an event for girls though. I reckon it would be sweet to run it over the winter - an excuse to go riding when you would otherwise be sitting at home in your slippers eating toast. The best place I have ridden over the winter was in Mackay - it was sweet.

Other suggestions?

Perhaps it's because so many of the guys in this sport come across as complete knob jockeys? The behaviour & attitudes of some of the 'higher profile' members of the sport wouldn't help much......imagine being a girl and picking up a copy of Aus Kiteboarder mag to see what the sport is all about? The behaviour & attitude of lots of the guys in forums like this is equally lacking in appeal. Every time my GF has a read through any of these forums, she comes out afterwards and says 'Geez there's some dickheads in there.'

When my GF started, she did say that she was disappointed that there weren't more girls kiting in our area. At that time, there was only one other semi-regular girl kiting apart from her. The other girls who used to be regular kiters have either moved away or have other things going on atm (kids etc) and don't have as much time to kite as before.

She also took a while to overcome the fear factor with how much power the kite could generate, which is something I think most guys are immune to initially (the '10 feet tall and bullet proof' factor.....the same thing that makes young males plough into solid objects in cars at high speed).

But, she's still at it and making progress all the time, so I'm glad she stuck at it

Hey Ladies,

WA is undoubtably the capital for womens kiting. We have about 6-8 ladies at our local beach alone. Most of the beaches in WA where kiting happens count around 1/2 dozen per location.

I would guess WA numbers at a conservative 40-50 ladies kiting between Margs and Gerro.

How about a winter escape to somewhere windy, warm and beautiful like Exmouth or Shark Bay? Ahhhhh Perfection!

Good winds,

Maybe an east coast and a west coast one? There would probably be about the same amount of girl kiters in all of the eastern states as there is in WA. 50-60 is heaps!

So so true in many ways... I just take a lot of what is said in the KBM mag with a grain of salt, and the write up's, reviews, and some other sections you judge yourself what you will take on board.

However, it is great to see more and more chicks wanting to get into kiting.

Mrbonk's observations maybe a reason women don't begin or continue.

Fortunately and with rare exception I've found the boys in my neck of the woods to be rather endearing personalities.

Anakin, I totally agree with what you said. The guys I kite with are top blokes, and really, really nice.

It was only the actions and behavior of some of the overseas"higher profile" kiters that I meant. Not meaning the 'higher profile' aussie kiters...

Having a comp for a Pink Waroo like Kusu did, is at least promoting and giving some more women the opportunity to start kiting and get hooked

Winds looking steady for sun and mon at least

Hi,

I am a chick who kites in Yeppoon, QLD and I am the only chick. A girl had a lesson but never had a second one ! I think that the reason girls don't get into kiting is because kiting is a male dominated sport. eg. open a mag you'll be lucky to see a chick actually kiting, they are all full of half naked ones but none actually kiting.

I, for one, would be more than happy to see lots of girls half naked and kiting. More girls kiting would be good too.

As kiteboarding is mainly a male dominated sport (as with many different sports), KBMag however does showcase a variety of female orientated articles and adverts etc (Eg. lastest issue has articles such as Sydney chicks kitesurfing day and the Cindy Mosey island odyessy). Although there is only a small amount of material for women it does attempt to provide a bit of variation but is limited by the popularity of women and kiting and has to cater for the target audience.

As for getting girls involved with the sport I think that sponsers would have a major influence by planning events especially aimed at getting women started in the sport. As a spectator, women (and men) would be detered from the sport as it does require a great deal of skill and is also a very expensive sport to get involved in so having open days may improve numbers within the sport.

why would you want any more girls in the sport it can only lead to disaster look what has happened in surfing, The people with the biggest attitude in the water are the chicks you get to many together and they think they are killin it .

Hey mate - you need to watch what you're saying... I don't know what kind of "chick's" you're hanging around that think that way (it requires soo much skill and we can't afford it)...

But seriously, don't make assumptions that couldn't be further from true blue.

Goodwinds Hope to see you round

Pauly J is pretty right with the surfing attitude, and you do see that emerging in kiting slowly (with chicks that is). IMO, riders shouldn't talk it up (their riding) or publicise themselves, Just let your riding do the talking for you... Solves that problem and you'll be noticed and rewarded for it

I wasn't saying this applied just to women, I was infering that kiteboarding in general is a sport that requires alot of skill and money to become involved in which may be daunting to some people.

As for what pauly was sayin thats so true. I was surfin at burliegh the other day and there was a chick out who absolutely ripped and was hastling all the guys which was good to see but wish I got more waves haha.
