it is the key-if ya dont have it get it off some1 who does-4 some reason they cant wait to feel that they r teaching someone

keep off the board until you r truly ready other wise u might just quit
rome wasnt built in a day

GET A LESSON or at least get a DVD - "The complete kiteboarding guide" DVD is excellent.
And don't kite near me until you've learned the ropes..

Some simple advice that might stop you hurting yourself or others:

*** GET IN THE WATER! ***

You shouldn't be learning to fly a 12m kite on land full stop. Trainers are OK for the beach but real kites can hurt you or other beach users. Even it the water's only a foot deep it can still save you from injury.

You said it was raining - a squall can increase the wind speed quickly. Maybe thats what happened to you?
