I am eligable... but what a farking waste of money this all is. $42 billion.... that is SO much money from a GDP point of view. Invest in the countries manufacturing capabilities to EARN more money, make the whole banking/loan industry non privatised so the greedy banks dont keep earning there billion dollar profits and ripping off the REAL aussie battlers.

This country is going to be in so much debt, that we will be paying it off still in 100 years.

Too right, I get some dosh if it comes. Through if Australia was my business i would be spending some coin, but areas of infrastructure etc.. It's nice, but at the expense of Aus the money isn't worth it.. (MHO!)

BTW

Labour has already racked up $118 BILLION DOLLARS of debt.

FFS!!!

I think Kerry on ABC said that was from lost income tax due to slow down, not from Govt spending.

he made Turnbull look like a turnip

Just wondering if I havent done my tax return do you still get it when you do it??
I just bought a new airush hammer

There is no CASH getting handed out... We are all getting a credit card with $950 debt on it!! It has to be paid back...
Add to that the loss of revenue and a deficit of $200 Billion is being forecast, that's $10,000 debt for every person in Australia, which probabgly equates to about $40,000 debt for every tax payer.
It's kinda like going on a big spending spree with your kids master card after you've lost your job.. I for one hope at least part of this stimulus package is blocked, I have enough debt of my own without someone else adding to it.

The majority of people

1. don’t understand economies.

2. don’t realize that inflation is as good as a tax increase and that what governments borrow today will be paid back tomorrow through money printing to pay the debts resulting in inflation

3. are blissfully unaware of the serious problems facing America, Europe fiscally speaking and china and other emerging export countries socialy speaking.

the more our government goes into debt the lower our Aussie dollar will go, increasing the price of that imported kite or our imported fuel, I recall back in December the topic about kite price increases... that was the flight to American dollars that strengthened the US dollar and weakened the Aussie, combined with the reduced interest rates our dollars heading for another drop....

the reason for the injection is to get people to spend to keep our economy going since our economy is 75 percent internally about consumption, problem is to justify the handout it had to sell how bad things are economically speaking around the world and so the individual hears how bad things are and in most cases puts the handout away into debt payments or for rainy days so it doesn’t actually do much except increase import costs from a devalued dollar...

as been mentioned gold is the only silver lining atm investment wise... um upto 60 percent on some of my gold stocks, and im expecting some to go to close to 700 percent by this time next year

Governments in debt is not necessarily a bad thing, and right now it is the reasonable approach - what I think may be unreasonable is how MUCH debt they are taking on.

I don't know how big the actual currency effect is going to be, not too familiar with forex volumes, but it will be interesting to see what happens. Also remember a low $AU helps exporters - which they definitely need right now.

That isn't necessarily the case in fact it is HIGHLY unlikely that there will be any money printing specifically to pay off debt. Although yes, we're going to have to pay it off through taxes.

I better get some, because I'll be paying for it when I leave uni haha.

yeah i hear you merman, i work 1 fulltime job and two part time jobs, to pay off debts and put my misses through uni, the harder i work the more they tax me and cause i work and earn money my misses gets not one cent from the government to help with uni fees, when i become primeminsiter the following will apply:

you are only allowed to claim the dole if you have worked and paid tax, why should you get something that you have not contributed too??? so no more paying dole bludgers or migranst who have never contributed a cent to this country, this includes medicare and the pension, why should you get something for free? do what we all have to do, work hard and pay for it.

if your a lazy fat un healthy slob due to no fitness and no other reason (its free to go for a run) than pay for your own medicare bills, im sick of paying for fat people who go to the doctor 3 times a week.

ohh and to to be entitled to the pension, you have to be an australian citizen and have worked and paid taxes in australai for at least 20 years. Go fly to Dubai and rock up at the government offices and say "hey im new here, pay me money and give me cheap housing!" and see what reply you get!

oh and lastly kiters would get tax cuts because they...............well................should. so there and yeah we should just print more money!!! lol.

in reality the blue collar worker will just keep taking it up the butt.

ditto, i am single with no kids, i work and what do i get...?
nothing...
...... well i get see my taxes go to 'mamma who hasn't seen her feet in years and can no longer feel her toes' and her five illegitimate kids who'll grow up and have five illegitimates of their own, because 'thats how mamma an' her mamma done it'.
meanwhile, my local kiting spot gets the rangers clamping down and gunning for a ban because 'pig shootin' sister fornicating mouth breather' wants to learn to kite in the pond because.... and i quote, 'i can't really swim', and launches a 13m in twenty five kts after three kiters advise him of the dangers and ramifications.
this total tool even had the idea of using an inflateable boat in lieu of a board, fifty metres upwind of a concrete wall and light poles

so called 'philantthropist' bill gates, is engineering mosquitoes to 'vaccinate the third world' when in reality its a further nwo project in eugenics.

maybe we could convince him to try something similar here with centrelink offices'

I work 5 days a week (long days on building site )..half for me half for the Australian Taxation Office.
I dont think this handout will stimulate the economy.
I think we are badly governed.
and over governed!I think good people head into politics and then the party bends them over the front bench..and we end up badly governed.

I think nurses should get a pay rise(have you been injured lately)
I think centerlink needs an overhaul. The distribution of funds is all wrong.
I think WA is the best place in australia.
I think i need to go to the beach .
I hope everyone goes to kitestock and the beachs are quiet this week end

I prefer Krudd over little johny. He seems both nicer and smarter to me. definitely a better diplomat. I'm all for talking and good relations over wars and that. Won't say any more as I'm certainly not intelligent or politically minded enough to back it up. My girlfriend seems pretty smart though (to my dumbass) and shes a Krudd fan too. But she is one of those types that don't only see the injustices but also feels the love for good things we get. Eg. She hates that its become more expensive for Australians to complete tertiary education but rejoices in knowing that if she grosses 40g a year, she'll pay enough tax to support a uni student for a year of study through what ever aus study is called now. Where I complain about ****ty roads AND at being held up at road works, she says 'oh that's good, this bit needed some fixing'.... How I wish I could see the whole picture and not just concentrate on the negatives. We need to see the negatives and address them but keep the overall picture in mind and be grateful for the good stuff. I'm happier with a leader I consider ethical. I noticed some peeps saying it seems like a waste of money and that the money should go to health care, infrastructure etc. I thought Ruddy was already forking out a fair bit of extra dosh for those things as well..I also thought that for this sort of thing to work you kinda gotta throw a fair bit at it so it has an effect. Anyway, not that I claim to understand how this plan is meant to work in any real detail but, I know like many other seabreezerers, we already got that money spent before we get it, which is the hope right? Few of us are going to save the cash, not even if we plan to. Buying locally was a suggestion made by some. That seems like a good plan to me. $950 would get my van roof perfectly rust free from the local mechanic and leave me $50 to throw China's way for a whirly bird vent and $50 for petrol for the next weekend away. Bring it on I say. Ps no wind or work today hence the possibly misinformed and poorly researched essay. haha someone else on seabreeze will be bored enough to read every word.

If you spend that money at K-Mart, all the money will go to China .

If you spend it on petrol it will go to the Arabs and Al Queda

If you purchase a computer it will go to Taiwan .

If you purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico , Honduras, and Guatemala (unless you buy organic).

If you buy a car it will go to Japan and Korea .

If you purchase prescription drugs it will go to India *
*
If you purchase heroin it will go to the Taliban in Afghanistan *

If you give it to a charitable cause, it will go to Nigeria .

And none of it will help the Australian economy.

We need to keep that money here in Australia. You can keep the money in Australia by spending it on prostitutes, beer (domestic ONLY), or tattoos, since those are the only businesses still in Australia *

My girl works for those nasty people. You get a % of $950 depending on how much you earn under $100000.
The more you earn the less you get.
It is still far from being approved.

The more people talk about spending it and not saving, the more chance we have of getting it.

For me a new North x-ride board.

Something else you could fix is: My husband and I each have fulltime jobs, we have to put our children into daycare and before and after school care so we can go to these jobs so we can earn money to stay off the dole, and pay our debts and keep our children fed, clothed and housed. So why do we have our Daycare fees go up and the benefits go down when we are doing our bit to help society and not being sponges and the dole bludger down the road who puts their kids in daycare for 3 days a week (because they are just too much to handle) get full benefits from Centrelink?

My point is: Either way, with whatever government you have, not everyone is going to be happy. I didn't vote for Kevin Rudd, however I don't like Turnbull either. But you can't blame the budget deficit entirely on the Labour Government as it is not exactly their fault what happened with the global economy.

I could bitch and whinge about many areas in which the Governments (past and present) have screwed me over, but what is the point when the arguments for both sides are fair and it will just keep going around in circles??

In keeping with the topic, I say, Bring on the cash handouts!!! (at least this way I will still stay poor but my family and I will have a few nice little luxuries we might not of had before)
