I had just arrived at SC yesterday and was looking at going out, seeing phil and guys on scene doing all they could, i went over to lend assistance as best as possible,
the guys were fanatastic in effort and professionalism. There was nothing left else to do on the scene.
Having spoken with him on numerious ocassions it makes it all the harder to think we dont have a buddy down there now.

I will be gladly supporting his family with some financial support, as they come to terms with their loss.

all my heart felt condolences to his family.

every one be safe.

Got a message about this this morning.

Tragic and so sad, especially for his family. Please accept the condolences of another stranger; we are all members of the same kiting family.

To everyone that was there at the time, thank you for doing your best to help when I imagine it may have been easier to walk away.

Reading his old posts, and everyone elses words, I remember taking calculated and not-so-calculated risks when kiting was the only thing keeping me sane as he appeared to be doing, I was just lucky I guess.... because I am still here to tell the tales.

Today is another day to take care guys. When you have a front that has passed and another just behind it, it can create a lot of turbulent gusts at the edifice of the air mass between them.

Always take heed of the synoptic charts as well.

Be safe hey..

What a tradegy to hear Marc (Coldie) had passed.

On the way home from work you would see his van parked whenever the wind was on. I'd trot down from my place in Overton Gardens and rig up.. He was always happy to launch you or say g'day.

Sincere condolences to his family but also thoughts to the guys who took care of after him afterwards.

Let's dig deep guys and get this fund up and running for his partner/little fella.

Condolences to the family. I was kiting with him yesterday. As we were starting to set up on the grass next to his van we had a good chat. He gave me some great advice and also suggested to a friend of ours that going out on a 17m Edge is a bad idea. Before long he was out blazing back an forth on his shin twin tip with a huge smile on his dial.

As I was about to launch the wind dropped so I discontinued and he came in so I landed his kite. He had a 30 min rest in his van then was straight back out there as the wind picked up. I then launched and as I entered the water he swooped past me and told me not to stand too long on the shore with my kite in the air. Then as I was out he swooped past again and told me that there's a shark so stay close to shore.

The conditions were horrible, rainy, gusty, onshore and sharky but he was loving it and in his element. I must have left very shorty before this tragic even occurred. I didn't know him well but being one of the last people to talk to him has left me feeling numb today. Take care peeps! Never rush or get complacent!

as a surfer (and non kiter) the last few weeks have been rubbish in perth and most days i have spent time sitting in the carpark at phone booths thoroughly enjoying watching you blokes and girls enjoying these fronts coming through at cott. One thing that struck me was the comradery you guys show, assisting each other with gear, kites, boards, both coming in and out of the water. I am so sorry to hear of the guys passing and i feel for the guys that assisted in everyway possible. Rest in Peace
Keep the community spirit strong, look after each other both in and out of the water,

Jesus...

OMG. On this tragedy I re-initiated my sb account.

Marc was a good friend of mine. My wife knew him as well. He visited us at home once.

Who would not notice his "Plumbing and Gas" van parked on Pelican Point:) He was always there. Helping hand, last to go, first to help specifically to the new guys at his local. His enthusiasm in cycling and kiting was second to none.

He was the initiator of the Pelican Point kiters group.

And what we've lost?! We lost one of the best.

I am deeply, deeply disturbed with this event. The next board I make will be dedicated to Marc.

Family and friends, Dusta, my deepest condolences.

Perhaps we should all meet at Cott at some stage in memory of Marc and to bring all us kiters a tad closer.

Sad, sad news about our - "super stocked mate" who had that great smile and energy for life and loved his kiting as much as any. Will miss seeing him on the water on his race-board hooting with joy as he speed past you. A blessing to him, his family & friends.

We will see you again mate at the L2L in December the race you wanted to kick my arse in - you will be watching over us all with your eternal smile & positive energy. See you up there one day mate. Johnnokeys & the racing crew.

i been talking to Marc quite a bit on the phone lately and the news are really shocking!
He was keen to come to Townsville to race with us but couldnt make it. The dude was so enthusiastic and keen about kiting like not many others i have talked to.

We should all have a moment of silence dedicated to him at L2l at his home beach where he left his life doing what he loved most!

RIP brother you will always be remembered and missed.

Yeah Marc was always looking out for us - no matter what antics we were gettin up to.
In the last three days of kiting there, he'd pulled me out twice after going over the falls - tangling my lines in weed...
Cheers angain Coldie bro we'll miss you...

It might be worth waiting for Dusta or someone having spoken to his family about setting up an account to donate money. As has happened last year the gesture or attention may not be wanted by the family.

And with the threads now popping up regarding prevention or a dissection of what happened, no doubt they will turn into a necessary and 'robust' discussion soon enough, but be mindful that several media outlets are getting all their information from this forum and family soon enough might end up on here looking for answers.

Condolences to the family.

Very sad news indeed. Was out at Melville yesterday on account of it being straight onshore and you couldn't land there without dumping your kite using the release mech due to the frontal gusts so imagine it must have been much stronger on the sea.
I didn't know him personally but from what I read we've lost a well loved individual and a passionate kiter.
My deepest condolences to his family and friends

Yep, really horrible news.
Sincere condolences to the family and friends.

As a regular at Pelican point, I had the chance to share the water with him on multiple occasions.
His enthusiasm to the sport was contagious.
One particular session I will always remember... wind was light, we were the only two out on the water at Peli Pt. I was working hard to stay upwind and each time our paths were crossing we would look at each other with huge smiles on our faces and then we would scream "yahhhooooo!!" over and over again

I took a walk yesterday around 1pm in Cot and I saw Marc's van parked and his kite on the water.
Weather was crazy but he seems to have a lot of fun.
I hope you enjoyed every moment of it Marc.

It seems the last words Coldshot ever spoke were likely to have been "Well we have to look out for each other". (see Slacks post on page 1).
This; after giving up his kiting time to aid another kiter - not a kiter in danger just an unknown fellow human being - whose day was made a whole lot better by having someone coming to help them out of a messy situation.

Where was the karma ???
So close to being just another 'incident' but in this case a whole series of near saves that just werent meant to save the day.

I may not have known you very well Coldshot but I will never forget the message you have left for us all.

So sad to see your friends & kiter mates reacting to their loss at Cott today.
Legend.

We were out last week and he was so stoked. I was in the car' park and he tore past, yelling up 'I got barrelled! I got barrelled!' Talking after he said it was the first barrel he ever got. Don't think there were many people who loved kiting as much as he did. RIP bro.

Actually in tears reading this.
Tragic.
Yes **** happens but:
As a pole boarder turned kiter I wear a helmet almost every time I go out. Once off shore, it just becomes a mount for the gopro but, when things go to ****, like a board flicked off up wind in a huge boost, or a self land or launch gone wrong when I donT get the the QR in time, the helmet...... Well, go head butt a brick wall without a helmet, then try it with one. If you follow my instructions you probably will not get to do the second part of the experiment.

RIP brother.
