Ok so now I have been educated that riding my twin tip and using kite style of waveriding isn't cool (in previous thread). I now need to know why should I do it without the straps? I can see the initial drawcard of posing like a cool surfer down the beach, but really why wouldn't I use straps on my surfboard? I could go higher faster and use my kite to it's full potential to ride the waves with straps, so will someone enlighten me as to why I shouldn't use them... I'm baffled.

So you can move your feet ! which is important when surfing as you want your feet in a different position depending on what you are about to do....... racing the line = further forward smacking the lip = further back. With the power of the kite pulling you this becomes less important........ I usually just use one footstrap on the front foot only for tow ins and kite this way i can still easily move my back foot when required.

Your surprised I have nothing better to do? But then you reply to a topic where you can't believe a guy has nothing better to do... hahaha surely that is worse.

I just need some information on how to ride so the guys at the beach will invite me to their BBQ's.

The religious zeal shown by some folks for strapless riding is beyond comprehension.
Devotees worship the practise like it's some cult-like activity.
It's freaking me out.
If they make a post on the forum...
they always prefix the title of the thread with the word 'STRAPLESS'.
STRAPLESS this, STRAPLESS that.
STRAPLESS vid, STRAPLESS pic.
Enough already !
We get it, ok.
We understand that you ride a surfboard with no straps when you kite.
STRAPLESS makes you look like a real surfer, right ? ...
except for the gay harness buckled around your guts ...
and the stick in your fist with the 4 lines hanging off it.
lol.

Have one foot still in strap when things go wrong can be quite dangerous with a surfboard ,don't you get that twisted feeling. A mate has just ended up with a spiral fracture cause of this.

Where did I say repetitive ? ^^^
The strapless-cult on this forum is fanatical.
You know, like those religious nutjobs who preach to the lunatic fringe.
lol.
And it makes me think that this fanaticism is maybe overcompensation for doubt ?
And there is plenty of doubt ... ??
Doubt about being unstrapped in big waves,,,
Doubt about being unstrapped in high winds,,,
So many ifs and buts ...
So many provisos before you can go naked.

Hey wavepot, you may have not said "repetitive", but before you call the unstrapped kettles any sort of colour, place yourself before the mirror, and have a good hard look at "fanaticism" !!! Do you doubt the "deathleash" Grosshopper ?

(I am fanatical about pulling up fire-darkened water boiling equipment you see !!!)

Hi Trevor,
If somehow you are referring to my enthusiasm for exposing death-leashes for what they truly are ...
then I make no apology for it.
But this thread is about kite surfboards having straps (or no straps).
This thread is all about riding style.
Death-leashes have nothing to do with fashion or style.
The issue with death-leashes is far more serious and profound.
But that's another thread and I promise I will raise it once again in the future.
lol.
Meanwhile, please try to remain on-topic.

Thank you for the response Wavepot.
To get back on topic then, as you see it, surely strapless is safer as no nasty ankle strains ? !!! LOL
And by the way, it is not about what "death-leashes truly are", it is about what you think they are.

Trevor,
It's interesting that you raise the subject of safety when comparing the two styles (strapped/unstrapped). ^^^
Of course it all depends on whether you wear a leggie when riding strapless.
Many folks do.
And we all know about kiting with a board leash, don't we ?
