Hi,

My wife and I recently bought a pair of North rebels 9m & 12M, we took them out for the first time yesterday in approx 13kts.
I got the impression that my wife (50kgs dripping wet) is not going to be able to fly her 9m with much more wind than what we had yesterday! Don't know if its just our crappy piloting skills but I had to pull most of her depower for her to have any control and I managed to get up on her 9m and i'm 80kgs.
Do you think that we probably got her too much kite??

She will need a smaller kite , yes but she should be able to hold the 9m down up to say 20knts when riding skills improve.
You'd be best getting a 6m for her in anything above the 20knt mark I think.
Also board size is important too if she is still a beginner then 132 would be a good size for her.
Try here too mate

Enjoy.

I think the rule of thumb is around 10kg per metre of kite. For example i weigh 85 kg and can ride a nine fuse/ rebel in 15 to 30 kts so someone whos 55kg would have the same range for a 6m give or take.

Cheers,
I guess a 6m kite might be in her future then, I would be a bit more comfortable with her being underpowered at the moment rather than overpowered.
Besides I seem to be getting quite keen on her 9 for the same reasons.

It's just a matter of tuning the kite and bar properly for your wife. 9m will be fine for her.

The 'depower' is not really there as a depower. It really is the wrong name for what is actually designed as a trimming or tuning mechanism.

PM me and I will explain how to tune the North bar and Rebel for your wife.

Something is wrong...13 knots is very light for a 9m. try to tune the bar properly
