SOFT EVA BAR ENDS
The Powerdrive IDS is the only bar on the market with soft EVA multifunction ends. The EVA ends create a seamless transition from the center of the grip all the way to the ergonomic, protective ends. This provides added comfort when doing aggressive turns at the ends of the bar. The ergonomic geometry of the bar ends also serve as line winders to adequately manage your line set.
LOWER PIVOT POINT
The soft EVA ends have allowed us to lower the pivot point of the steering lines right down to the bar. This reduces the turning impulse required to steer your kite.
FLOATATION
The EVA bar ends have sufficient buoyancy to float the control bar and lines, allowing us to eliminate the cumbersome external floats for an even more streamline, uncluttered look and feel.
NO PULLEYS
The new Powerdrive IDS control system is completely void of any pulleys. The IDS equipped kites all work on a direct 1:1 method of control. This produces virtually no bar pressure, and leaves the bar free of added lines and pulleys.
PROVEN QUICK RELEASE
Industry leading QR. Safety is an integral part of the Cabrinha design culture. This is why we have used the same quick release method for three years running. Our quick release has very little moving parts and is not susceptible to salt or sand. We do not make our QR perform any other function than to Quickly Release. It is easy to activate with a right or left hand, whether the kite has power or not. Its simple. Time tested. Proven.

If at anytime during the Absolute Depower process (after the main QR has been activated) you need to completely separate yourself from your kite, you can pull the secondary QR where the landing line attaches to the harness loop.

But why 8 pulleys on the kite??

Surely they could have used a few less and still get the same effect of the IDS?

I have flown the Switchblade IDS 8m and 10m, and love em! They turn noticably faster then the Switchblade 3's. Cannot wait until i receive mine!

To be honest I am not really sure why there are the pulley's.I was told but I must not have been paying attention,I think I was running off down the beach with the new SB IDS under my arm!

All I know is they are there for a reason and they work.The kite is so reactive and lively but stable at the same time.

I do know that Cabrinha actually manufacture their own pully's now.The new pulleys have a more solid roller and a little side step in them so the rope can never get jamed in between the roller.

The other New thing is the line that runs through the pully is a much stronger higher grade line.

Once you see the New pully's and feel the New rope all concerns about pully's getting jamed and line wearing will Dissapear.

The reason I ask is because these days you can quite easily produce a reactive stable kite with variable bar pressure with only two. Granted, I'm sure cabrinha don't just put them there for show, but if you look at some of the fastest turning bows and you'll see they don't need 8 pulleys to get a reactive kite with good range. 8 pulleys is more than the flysurfer and that has more bridle than a wedding.

Does the Crossbow also have 8?

Sizes seem a bit close. Ive got a 12m & 9m xbow which at 85Kg covers me for most usable wind conditions. Looking at replacing them but 10m & 8m seems like too much overlap.

Even if money was not an issue having three kites gives too much choice, reminds me of my windsurfing days with a quiver of 5 sails.

Why not a 12/8 then? I have a 12/9 and I find those have a pretty big overlap so 12/8 shouldn't be an issue. In fact, if 14/9 would be possible.

Guess so, think I'm dialed into 12/9 but 12/8 still has some overlap. Different makes and models will give different wind ranges for the same size kite.

Get your mrs into kiting and get a 12,10,8 and 6. When the wind comes up you never have to pump up the next size down, as its always there on the beach ready to go.

I wish, my Mrs gets cranky if she catches me looking at Seabreeze

The SB IDS kites have a total of 8 pulleys, 4 on each side of the kite.
One one each side is on the rear lines, and 3 on each side are on the front line bridles - one more than last year. However one of the front line bridle pulleys is forward of the "centre" of the kite, allowing the IDS to work properly, and virtually does not move in turning and trimming of the kite, so the kite feels very similar, if not more direct than last years kite.
May sound hard for some to beleive but its true. Try one and see for yourself.

The rear line pulleys allow the kite to turn faster.

The pulleys are mounted correctly and the pulleys are a Cabrinha design, so purpose made for kites. The pulley wheel pin or axle is peened over at each end, unlike all the other yacht brand plastic pulleys. This makes the pulley much stronger, and the pulley body side walls have been specially shaped so that the bridle line cannot get caught between the pulley wheel and the pulley body.

The CB IDS has 6 pulleys, 3 on each side of the kite.

Both models in stock for sale and for demo at KP Sans Souci and Geelong and from the end of next month from our new shop in Brisbane.

Just a couple of question. The depowers look to flap more in the breeze than the bar photo suggests. Can the IDS have an overide stopper unit (as in SB3) fitted to unspin the bar & for people with short arms, or would this interfere with the IDS system. Does the kite relaunch as well as the SB3

They do flap around a bit, but its not hassle.
However there is an overide stopper solution now, and it will be provided free of charge to anyone who has purchased an IDS kite already, as well as be fitted to all kites being shipped over the next few weeks.
The solution looks like last years product, but does not hold quite as firmly, without the use of the ratchet clip (which, on last years could disable the overide completely).

There is a feature of the cabrinha kites that should be better publicised, and it is that if you let go of the bar you can just grab the black centre line and pull it towards you at any time, so that you can reach your bar or the trim toggles.
Once you let go of the bar, the centre line has hardly any pull on it.

Yes the kites relaunch as well as the 2008 "3" series kites, we have tested them heaps in that department!

long time no see everyone (howdy), came on here to find reviews on the SB IV, as I tried yesterday the new crossbow IDS, and fell in love with it.... (yeah, everything happens, hey!).
Now itching, cause dunno if I should get a 10m Xbow or wait to try the switchy, which wont get here (Caribbeans) before a while... Locals told me the switchblade hadn't changed much, but none of them got any yet (nor flew one), and just found out on here they've actually changed the bar as well and that the kite is quite different from its previous versions.... hm..... what to do, what to do...
I want to get a 10m no matter what (I had as much low end with the 10m SB 3 than I did with the 12m, with a much better top end: 10m is the go for me (and I would say for any rider weighting less than 60 kilos: just does my whole wind range!)), but I was totally impressed with the crossbow (they should have changed the name, it's got nothing to do with the crossbow we knew, it's a whole different kite, with grunt, dashing turning speed, zero bar pressure, it's sick in waves and jumps big! (everything I like) with endless depower), so now scratching my head: I dunno if I should wait for the SB IDS or go for the crossbow.... The switchy's been my mate for the past half year, I would hate to get a crossbow (they've raised the price big time! (bummer!)) to then fly a Switchy and find out I like it better.... on the other hand, the crossbow felt sooooooo nice, I can't really go wrong, but it's more of a pricing issue now... anyone has had a chance to fly both back to back? If yes, I'd like to know which one had the biggest boost, and the fastest turning speed. Also, which one was easiest to go unhooked...
Looking forward to your recommendations....

I was just wondering about how you were going the other day and I think I asked Paul how you were on another forum?
Anyway sounds like you are have too much fun!!!

I've ridden both and so far I prefer the CB IDS, but I think the SB IDS will jump just as high and float maybe a bit more, as well as unhook better.
I need to ride the 10M SB IDS ro decide whether I will stick with them this year or switch over the CB IDS.
I agree on the name thing, its not anything like any of the old crossbows.

Where do you base yourself in the Carribean?

We might have to organise a Sydney crew trip over there.

Excuse my ignorance but what are the differences between the two? And what are the benefits of each?

I am in the market for a new kite and will probably stick with Cabrina as they have served me so well to date.

I am probably looking for a 9 or 10m which I can use alongside my existing 14 (2007 Contra) on quiet days. I am just over 90kg and have been kiting for just over a year.

I you can get down to Sans Souci, we have demos of both.
However if you like the 14M Contra ( I do), then I think you will like either of the new CB or SB IDS kites but I think the CB IDS will be more suited to your style.

The SB IDS is better for unhooked, and maybe has a bit more float in the jumps, they are both sweet kites this year.
The CB IDS comes in 10 and 9M, I will have some 9M kites to sell later this week, but have a demo to test now, 13M demo too.
