So, yesterday the wind showed up at Brighton around 6pm. There were ~12 kites in the water and 2 fishermen in the middle of the beach.

Are they allowed there? Don't they have to go to the pier/breakwaters?

There were a couple of noobs body dragging, not sure if there were any problems there

I got caught up with their lines, even though I was maybe 10 meters away from them. They started rolling their lines in, screaming at me. I didn't want their hooks to get to me, so I grabbed the lines and broke them, kited back out.

You are kidding right.......

I am guessing that they were also there before the kites.... So generous to give them a whole 10m of space...

Isn't it like a sports dedicated beach or something like that? Fishing and kite boarding are a bad mix, I would have probably have had a chat to them on the beach and if they didn't move on maybe do the same to save some poor guy getting a hook stuck in him.

So next time some kid builds a sandcastle at brigjton, you can smash it down and inform him promptly he's on a " sports dedicated beach" an may be encroaching on a kite landing area

Yep, you might be allowed to kite there but it certainly doesn't mean people aren't allowed to do other things on the beach.
Did you expect him to go home when the first kite pumped up?

Keep away from fishermen, lines and hooks don't mix well with kiters or kites. They have every right to be there. FFS

fcaramia seems like a very level headed sensible guy FFS get off his back

I'd rather kite with the fisherman around than fcaramia but thats just me..

Guys... there are a lot of silver spoon kiters lately in St Kilda and Brighton, as they live across the road or close by in their huge mansions. That's the only reason this is an issue. These "dentists" are bored riding their carbon bikes down the Esplanade, so they've decided to take up kite surfing and have the money to buy into the sport.
Next time you pull up to the beach, just have a quick look at the types of cars that are parked along the road or in the car parks.
Just a bunch of yuppies that think they own everything around them.

plenty of hard working guys in the sport, some may drive nice cars and still shred. How does someone making money or not have any impact on how you enjoy the sport?

Breaking their lines is a bit far..... I would have a talk to them and see if they could move down the beach a bit or something. I know kiters rocked up after they were there but it's kinda hard to see a 10m+ line with a hook on the end, I don't wanna be riding a long and a hook gets stuck into me and then ripped out because I can't stop instantly. Everyone just should be more aware of each other and give everyone enough space.

Used the scalpel I keep in my Porsche. I considere it part of my hands.

Are you jealous from other people being successful.
I'd like to remind you that the more people taking part in kite surfing the better off the sport will be. Lets not hate on people who are richer than you who wanna take up the sport

There were 6 fishermen at the water’s edge yesterday arvo/evening at Middle Brighton, they must be loving it down there at the moment!
2 guys each end, plus two smack-bang in the middle - spreading out to take up the whole shoreline...

Roberto must be having a few difficulties with lessons, trying to navigate around these guys.

On the other hand, after a solid morning in theatre performing breast augmentations and labiaplasty, I’m sure there’s nothing like hopping across the Esplanade for a quick kook-out at Brighton Kite Beach!

I kite no where near fisherman, I have a great respect for all water users.

Give Fisherman room man they usually realise its not a great idea to have kite boarders zooming around and mess up the water.

Last time this happened I told the guy this aint the spot to fish... to open, its to shallow with no deep hollows, or natural places for the fish to hide in.

I even offered to take him and his mate out on my timber put put out of the river mouth to a better spot (to go fishing with me at sunset).

Although on the other hand... I have also had fishos at Altona peir cast heavy sinkers trying to hit me. Ying and Yang I guess.

Never break a fishos line man that will get you into BIG TROUBLE.

Remember they sit there pissed off sinking beer all day (because they dont have a boat), that is a recipe for a thumping.

I know its a pain in the bum when a fisherman sits smack bang in the middle of your local spot, just repect everyone its a BIG BAY.

I'm going to go fishing off Brighton beach tommoro sounds like the fish are biting !! Only thing is ill be using 80lb braid and a funny topic as bait can't wait to hook me some noobs !! Might even throw out an old north bar lure and see if I can catch me a bernie fish !!
