Great discussion.

It almost makes me want to ditch the windsurf gear and take up kiting.

See what you've started!
Yeah, come play with US

LOL,

I might just stick to my 3m kite and when it's windy enough, windsurf.

Sorry to derail the subject a little,

But,

Well done,

It seems you have a great functional association.

Is there any further movement on this yet? Mentone was an absolute sh't fight this Sunday.
Learner dude teaching his learner mrs, grabbing kites by trailing edge. Learner Europeans no worry with them but they said they were told to stay away from St Kilda.
Two or three guys learners again kiting right In front of the surf club In between the flags. I spoke to these guys and told them to move down wind to the left of the drainage pipe, these guys proceeded to crash their kites on the beach in the powerzone laughing.
There was way too much kooky activity going on, ESP for a delicate spot.
Hopefully this won't continue as Mentone is a nice spot and is 500 m away from my front door.

Big prominent Kiting signs with directions (and where not to kite) needed urgently!

Kiting between flags and in the no boating zone is NOT ON. I have seen some experienced kiters stray there recently too. It doesn't matter whether there is nobody swimming or on the beach.

As has already been pointed out the 5knt rule applies to kiting as with any other form of water craft, as does the no boating zones etc.

I participated in the meetings as a KBV member for a number of areas a couple of years back with the objective of nominating as many locations around the bays as possible that the 5knt rule would would not apply for kiters and windsurfers. The final result was very disappointing to say the least, my opinion not meant to be representative of KBV. only a hand full of zones were allocated resulting in the masses continuing to break the rules.

The ridiculous thing is that at each of the nominated areas, the 5knt rule immediately applies as soon as a swimmer or other water user enters the water in that area!! So why not have more area allocated????

Finally just a clarification, the kiting areas nominated where not meant to be the only areas that we are allowed to kite in as some seem to believe.
