Thanks boys.

100m is an exaggerated guestimate. I'm certainly edging of sorts rather than pointing direct down wind... but the net direction is def down wind.

Gorgo, I can't wait to get to that up wind point! Have a good weekend fellas.

Aspendale to Mentone is a great downwinder for a southerly. The only obstacle is the Mordialloc pier but its easy to get around. Great waves all the way.

Thanks PeterC. That, looks, AWESOME!

I actually got out on Sat which was a nice constant 18-22knots down St. K. I *finally* had a break through this weekend, it clicked and I can now go slightly up wind, and certainly stay horizontal to the wind.

It was more or less a direct on shore when I was out on sat, and was able to get 4/5 passess back and forth until such time the waves took my board from under me...

Oh and I did my first proper graceful slide turn,... couldn't recreate it, but these are big milestones for me and I'm so glad I hit them!

Thanks all for your help (And to you PeterC for your advice both in this forum and your website).

I'm looking at doing a Brighton to St Kilda downwind next time the wind is right(given I live in Elwood )

Anything I should be wary of?

What makes any of the other downwinders in the bay anymore exciting?

Brighton to St Kilda is a nice downwinder.

Don't go too close to the shore north of Brighton as there are wind holes there and around Elwood, unless its blowing hard.

Getting around the St Kilda pier and breakwater is the only major obstacle, don't drop your kite going around it.

Once past the breakwater you can keep going to Port Melbourne and land next to the Spirit of Tasmania dock (wide beach).

Flat water or waves, or both.

Are any down winders confirmed that need another person or two, or is everyone just keen to do one, but nothing is organised?

G'day Sibbo,
The organization is usually a last minute thing because you never know if the forecast will deliver as predicted. I normally put the idea to a few people the day before to see whos keen (so they can organise with the other half etc)and if the wind comes up its on!
