Wow!

Im speechless, they won't partake and say whats happening with ALSA here on the forums but they dont mind having a whole website (which is a good thing). Next they will start their own 'Australian landsailing forum'.

I didn't see any mention of Blokarts or promo class. I hope this is because they are still developing the site, looked a little patchy in parts. Not sure I like the look of its close association with Phoenix landsailing (conflicts of interest maybe??) so I hope its solely for practical reasons (web hosting). Its definately a step forward though

I have to say its great to 'see' ALSA with a public front. I hope its a sign of good things to come

My thoughts exactly lachlan. Great news to see ALSA coming out into the 21st century "Flat world".

By the look of the site, ALSA is aligning directly with FISLY and NALSA re class and racing rules. The builders and other class sailors now have some certainty.

Blokarts are mentioned in the mini section.

It is interesting to note what is being said in the first of the articles quoted.

"The specific and primary purposes are to promote the sport and pastime of land sailing for the exclusive enjoyment of members of the Association and to provide a forum for communication among the members that will advance the sport."

Some explanation of the phrase " for the exclusive enjoyment of members of the Association " would be helpful. The use of the word "exclusive" seems inappropriate and smacks of it still being an autocratic rather than democratic organisation.

However the web site is a great start and I too hope is a sign of greater things to come.

Cheers Cisco

I thought that was a little sus too (using the term 'exclusive' like that). Time will tell I guess as to what the meaning is, to me it sounds like your not wanted at any ALSA affiliated events unless your a member.

I guess its a little unusual that you'd want to promote the sport exclusively to those who are already members of ALSA. You'd think that would be like preaching to the converted.

I'm keen to see what format the "forum for communication" will take given that forum implies two way communication.

Still its a great start and will only get better with fine tuning.

Not happy - anyone notice an ommision? No mention of Lake Lefroy Land Sailing Club inc considering that LLLSC was a founding club of ALSA and the oldest land sailing club in Aust I find this strange????

We are actively encouraging open communication and post our events (all open) as widely as possible but not a brass razoo on the ALSA website.

Perhaps it is yet to be uploaded and still underconstruction??? or do LLLSC members just ask to many questions....

I've seen a few points that dont make sense, was hoping they'd be cleared up in the near future. Let alone the few gramatical errors

The mini classes#1, 2, 3 seem misleading, why didn't they just say class 4 #1, 2 and mini. As no one appears to view Manta or promo's as 'mini' yachts (more a FISLY issue/complaint)

EDIT: The lack of rep listings for Lefroy club (sorry, forgot the full name while editing) or any others isn't a good sign. Why half complete a list?

I am with you on a positive step forward Vic. I think what we are all saying here is "A great first step ALSA, but a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, so keep stepping because you still have a few miles to go."

Wow ,woohoo. All these new classes. I ( if they allow an OPen Championships ) will be able to enter a cl 5 in International CL 5 and then strip off some weight ,add a 6m sail and enter the yacht in mini CL1. That should be an exciting class . super light yachts with bigger sails. That will be great for te heavier sailors who were disadvntaged by the old 5m sail area rules.
The Lefroy minis will fit nicely into Mini Cl 1,2 and 3. Sorry Blokarts, your now Blowkarts and those pods are out. ( I believe you've just lost some 600 landyachts in Australia) .
HOWEVER the word MANUFACTURERS seems to have cropped up on one page in the NALSA mini discussion. So maybe any home builts are out.. lots of interesting things to ponder.
Thanks Barry and Rabbit ( Sandgropers reps) for holding up the WA input on all the new changes

Fair comment Cisco I will reserve judgement for the time being and wait until construction has finished.

It does look like much of the stuff has just been cut and pasted from other websites, (which does save lots of typing). The sailing rules with their black pictures were copied from my article on seabreeze (I spent ages re-typing these from faded old photocopies) unfortunately when I uploaded the diagrams of the yachts into the article on the seabreeze article edit function something went wrong and they went black. I did always mean to try and sort it out with Laurie but never got around do it. So unfortunately you can not see the diagrams properly including the wind direction and markers. If anyone wants a copy of the sailing rules with ledgible diagrams (ie not black background). I have it on my computer and will happily share if asked.
The 2007 FISLY class 5 rules were also copied from the seabreeze site too as they contain the same formating error that I did not notice when uploading.

I look forward to a new era of ALSA being proactive with open communication, promotion of land sailing and a national association where we can all be heard and represented in.

Yes, I copied them into word from the pdf off the FISLY website so they were easy to read without having to download the entire 70+page book
Looking forward Vic to seeing your new yacht - will you bring it to Lefroy for the Sept long weekend?

So when did ALSA change the rules for small yachts to the NALSA rules?
ONLY a few weeks ago we were all assured that the class6 rules still applied !!!!!!!
(There goes my current project straight into the big green bin!!!)

Did only a few people of ALSA make the decisions (and was it made for commercial gains, ie; conflict of interest) or was it put to all of ALSA members?

For a decision this large one has to assume there was a "SPECIAL" meeting or A.G.M. held?

Were you aware of these changes, did you attend the meeting hillsy?

ALSA Website

Hi there All
You have all jumped the gun regarding the ALSA website and its content.

I was asked by ALSA to develop a website and the files/pages you see at the moment are only draft pages.

Since these pages went onto Phoenix a lot more development has been done with extra class pages etc etc etc.

The pages have been hidden on the back of Phoenix landsailing because I have been checking the links between the pages and making sure there is no errors when it finally goes live.

Please wait until the ALSA committee vote on the final pages and when the ALSA site is live on its on site and domain.

Clinton

PS. Who was the smartie that found the hidden link?

Good to hear we may have jumped the gun

The site looks good and is simple to navigate, well done with the design.

How did you go with your Victorian landyacht club venture? What and where are you sailing Clinton (sorry to drift of topic for a sec)?

Of topic for a minute thats ok.
I have a Blokart that is gathering dust at the moment due to work (traveling heaps of miles) and the Victorian club has suffered due to this as well.

If you have any ideas, or info that you might think would be interesting for the ALSA website email me.

As I said early it is no where offical, as it has not been voted on, but I will do what I can within the boundries set by ALSA.

How about a list of ALL Australian landsailing clubs including Blokart clubs... and not just clubs that align themselves with ALSA.

How about the CURRENT class regulations, ( putting a wish list for class specs isnt good as it only causes confusion ....)

The ALSA web site needs to reflect the constitution of ALSA

OBJECTS
The objects of the Association shall be:

A. To govern, develop and advance the sport of land sailing in Australia.

B. To promote, supervise and control the competitions for land sailing bodies and members.

C. To encourage land sailing bodies in Australia to affiliate with the Association, and to give all possible assistance to them in order to promote the sport.

D. To lay down standards, regulate and adjudicate over all facets of the sport to achieve co-ordination of the bodies and their aims.

E. To establish and maintain contact with overseas land sailing bodies for exchange of advancements in the sport and

I am really glad to hear that ALSA is being proactive and getting its own website - having its own domain is essentail I believe in protecting ALSA'a autonomy. Then the individual clubs can then link to the ALSA website.

It is important though for clubs without a website (such as LLLSC) to still provide contact names and details.

It is good that ALSA has volunteers like yourself Clinton willing to do this, thanks.

I do hope that when it does go live that all the racing rules and class rules are clearly marked as to if they are FISLY, NALSA, Pacrim or ALSA rules...gosh it woud be so much easier if they were all the same...

I look forward to the time when it is officially live.

Susan
PS let me know if you want an electronic copy of the racing rules with the good (not black) diagrams in them
