Yes, thanks for all the info. They are now aiming for Crowdy Bay. Not sure if they are thinking of going into the little bolt hole harbour or dropping the pick in the bay.

One thing with Esmeralda is you'd have to trust one of the many private mooring there, don't think there are any courtesy moorings

There is nothing there, no shops, no fuel etc, but Crowdy Hbr is good if they feel they can get in there, fender board or two will be handy for the new-ish jetty inside the harbour. I've not anchored in Crowdy Bay, but imagine should be ok as much as 'open roadsteads' can be??, as long as wind doesn't go any more N??, I reckon its NW nearly 30, gusting 35kts in Camden Haven area.

No courtesy moorings in Esmerelda but the private moorings are usually pretty well maintained.

I've been known to use the charter boat one - they wouldn't go out there in this!!

Yes Mulloway. Down south around here its an Easterly that the fish go off the bite. A strong northerly at this time of the year brings the snapper close to shore in Port Phillip, and a strong wind and the salmon are on the go off the jetties. Also now we are regularly We are regularly catching bluefin tuna out from here in Bass strait from now off and on until a few months after Christmas. We often do okl on the KG Whiting in a strong south westerly close to shore so the fetch isn't too much. Been hooking a few over the past few weeks. Last time I caught a mulloway was in the surf north of the Maroochy River.

Yes, looks great on the bar cam. They are off on the next leg. No fish or I would have heard about it. ;)

Would not recommend Crowdy Bay as an anchorage due to the poor holding.
This is what happened to a Bavaria in March 2021.

On my boat, a 6 ton 30 ft wooden motorsailer, I carry 50 meters of 10 mil chain, another 60 meters of anchor rope. The anchor is a hefty admiralty anchor. This is my set up for Bass strait anchorages as some anchorages have weed. I also have a danforth anchor on board as well as a smaller admiralty for kedging if needed and as a stern anchor.

I wouldn't anchor in a beach anchorage exposed to an onshore in a pink fit. As a guess, the pic of the smashed Batavia needs more detail re the conditions encountered before writing it off as an anchorage. In mild conditions from SE it would be ok?......providing there is not a huge swell wrapping around. Anything from the North....not a good idea.

They are doing very well. Shame they can't hang around for a hit of golf at one of the superb courses in the area - Hawks Nest the best but the other side of the port. The week ahead looks like easy weather compared to what they have been through, look forward to hearing of their progress.

They are soon passing Newcastle on their next leg of the journey. Not sure where they intend to drop anchor but it will be somewhere in Pittwater or Sydney.
Quite a flotilla heading south with them.

They made good time and are heading past Little Patonga Beach towards Cowan Creek. I just read Pete's Bite burnt down in September. Dam that's a shame!

"Peats Bite's deep water frontage, large floating pontoon and 6 moorings are ideal for any type of vessel. Day use of the Pontoon whilst dining is free of charge however overnight use is $50 per vessel and must be pre-paid. Overnight use of moorings is free of charge however guests must be respectful to other patrons and neighbouring properties."

Pittwater is a bit of a nuisance to anchor anywhere in the Southern end, mooring fields everywhere.
America's / Refuge Bay is a great place to rest. Cottage Point used to have a restaurant/take-away , I suppose its still there, next to a yacht club.

With the shoal draft of a cat it should be possible to get to ettalong, the north arm of broken bay. Nice sea side country town with the exception of one monolithic eye sore

The journey continues. Yesterday they left after a night anchored inside Barrenjoey Head. They decided to head to Sydney Harbour and dropped the pick off the North Head Quarantine Station due to a bit of sea sickness. They took off in the arvo and overnight and are still heading south off Uladulla near the shelf. Next stop is probably Eden. They landed a nice 4 kilo Albacore but apart from that there has been no fish caught trolling the lures.
They found a nice spot for an evening campfire cook up while in the Hawkesbury area

They have been in Eden for a few days off the beach near the Boyd Town. Today they snuck into the Kiah river mouth on high tide.

Years ago I recorded, mixed and co produced an Album for a band that was formed in the 70's in Eden from the local tuna fishermen. The band was called the Killers of Eden. I met a few members at a wedding in the mid 90's and when i heard their songs and that they were never recorded i suggested they do a CD.
