That's the new 2 piece trench/plug full cover. It completely fills all voids so doesn't fill with water and still gives minor adjustment on mast placement. Working on commercial version right now with Dale to fit all brands of mast , it was pretty well impossible to do the one piece full cover that I've been using . This works incredibly well , the starts are so easy now as you can see in the video .No wave assist or paddle strokes required on a 690 cm 2 that's pretty cool in my books.

Yeah, the plan is a retro fit to existing models

i'm kind of surprised there hasn't been much feedback on the fact that these improvements are not compatible with the old Max units. i'm no engineer so perhaps that was impossible, but to get a 10-20% improvement in battery time that requires you to effectively buy an entire new FD unit seems a stretch. i've been very happy with my FD Max and their support is exceptional, but I was disappointed to discover these improvements are not backward compatible. For me, I'd rather spend another thousand for another FD Max battery than 4 thousand+ for the whole new FD Max Plus setup. I guess the plan is that new buyers would opt for the PLus system and FD also gets more leverage regards the Fusion, but I hope there are no plans to discontinue the FD Max batteries.
